POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Perspective
When I close my eyes I see the darkness.
Sometimes I open them and see the same.
People tell me that there is glory in life. Light.
But do they see the pain? Do they know the darkness?
It filters your sight. Red, blue, purple, black.
The red rises in rage, steals sense, steals reason.
The blue falls in sadness, thick, it blinds you to love.
The purple rises from beneath the skin and burns.
Black is the darkness of the three together.
Some say the light reveals the darkness.
But for every highlight there's a shadow.

Chicken
I read a thing, it spoke to me.
Tattooed my heart, with a thought, a feeling.
To late I read it, vulnerable, weak?
Maybe strong, in ways I do not know?
Vulnerable but resilient?
It spoke of sounds bellowing, descending,
of chances forever extinguished.
It spoke of accepting love lost in passing,
of untrusted will, un-retractable truths.
And it yelled at me, of a sadness, a feeling.
Tore at me, hints, maybe truths, a heart in pain.
A pain I’m helpless against. Toothless. Useless.
To big to fight. To much to heal.
I couldn’t...

Laugh
People say that laughter is the best medicine.
They mean the good laughter, that comes from deep within.
That bubbles up uncontrollably. Warm and comforting.
Like a hug from a loved one when you walk in the door.
Not all laughter is medicine though, not all laughter is warm.
Some laughter is bright and brittle, like a sheet of ice.
It's nervous, it slips across the lips to hide the doubt.
A thin skin, transparent when seen, shattered when noticed.
Some laughter is a hammer, bludgeoning, bruising, breaking.
Circles, laughing together at...

Weight
There was a moment today, just a tiny fraction of silence.
A minute pause in the flow of words between us.
You looked down at your hands, they were clasped before you.
Fingers interlaced and holding on to one another.
Other peoples words washed over us and around us.
Too thick for our ears, they pooled in the silence at our feet.
For the briefest of breaths, the shard of time between heartbeats.
For just that instant, your brow furrowed, your eyes cast themselves downward.
For that precious pause in the present, you looked tired.

You can, I don't know, carve maybe?
Carve the truth from the world?
I think that's it, because it ain't easy
So many conflicting 'truths' so much confusion
And some of it isn't accidental
They want you to believe the lie
But you can still take up your chisel
Smash it into the information, all the words
Packed together into bite-sized pieces
Pieces crammed together so tightly that you can feel
The gravity sucking you in, trying to drag you under
Bite-sized pieces, of different sizes
Different bites for, or from, different...

Hugs
I love and hate that one last hug before you go away.
The rib cracking one, at the gate.
The one where I squeeze all your love out,
And crush all my love in.
The one I hesitate to start and never want to end.
Salty tear kisses on the cheeks.
I try to remember that last taste of goodbye,
In the lonely, you leave behind.
The rib cracking one, at the gate.
The one where I squeeze all your love out,
And crush all my love in.
The one I hesitate to start and never want to end.
Salty tear kisses on the cheeks.
I try to remember that last taste of goodbye,

Eunice took a walk today, in the snow
Eunice took a walk today, in the snow, it was the perfect day for it.
Snowflakes fell recklessly, laughing and dancing to the ground below.
Snowflakes afraid to fall, afraid of the drifts, clung to branches.
Bright shards, flakeletts, falling like tears, as the wind blew them loose.
Eunice took a walk today, in the snow, the snow can dress the world in elegance.
Framing each object, enhancing the contours, softening the hard edges.
Or snow can shroud it in silhouettes, black on white on white on black. Edges only.
Snow doesn’t know which it...

My first poem, the words come out
Some they whisper, some they shout
Some they tear a hole in mind
Some are mean and some are kind
Something pithy, something silly
Something about my giant willy
Some soft lie, and some hard truth
Some so gentle, some uncouth
I’ll never know until I try
So will I fall or will I fly?
Some they whisper, some they shout
Some they tear a hole in mind
Some are mean and some are kind
Something pithy, something silly
Something about my giant willy
Some soft lie, and some hard truth
Some so gentle, some uncouth
I’ll never know until I try
