Funeral Funny Business
somewhere between hopeful pessimism
and mundane ambivalence
i lost sight of the light at the end of the tunnel
with rocks in my pocket and
Some powder still left on my nose
I seem to have forgotten
all that I was supposed to know
when you just cant get that high anymore
what do you do?
where do you go?
tear droplets hit my cheeks
from waves of emotion that crash and swallow
how you take THAT many pills
and yet still feel THAT fucking hollow?
the thought of a lover, a final obstruction
opportunity seems endless ...
and mundane ambivalence

A Lover and the Lack Therof
I saw you out of the corner of my eye
I barely noticed you at first,
My god, you really look different around your friends
I could tell you hadn't seen me yet
Your smile was undeniably bright
(As per usual)
And your laugh sounded gregarious as ever
Always the center of attention
Easy to be cool when you're the only one old enough to buy alcohol here
I happen to linger a bit too long
And suddenly our eyes meet,
You a deer in headlights
My heart nearly exploded right out of my chest
Both of us clearly terrified of the...

Little girl
Higher, higher, higher
Kick my feet and fly
My toes can almost touch the top of the tree
I can hear my sisters laughter
And the youth still in my father's voice
I can feel his hand on my back
Pushing my sister and I on the swings
I am happy and I am free
I can smell the mud of the creek
And feel the grass beneath my feet
I run by the river Bank, fast as I can
Curls flowing behind me like flames
Again, I can hear my sisters laughter
And my mother calling us home for supper
Things are simple still, dreams come...
Kick my feet and fly

I am THAT girl
The pick you up when you’re down girl
Make your plate at the cookout girl
Dance with you in the club on a Friday
And wash our clothes on a Sunday girl
Yes, I am that girl
The smell good all the time girl
Hugs feel like home girl
Cooks food that warms your soul girl

The take up all the space in the room girl
Walking barefoot in the garden girl

Flirting with Death
I can see death out of the corner of my eye
Following me down the block
Two steps behind me, heart racing faster
Excitement is entrapment
I barely make it around the corner
Just barely out of your grasp
sigh heavy but my cheeks are hot
I can feel death standing outside my window
I make sure to leave the blinds slightly open
And undress extra slow
I know that he is watching
My skin tingles with exhilaration
But I wont let him catch me tonight
One day I left the window cracked
An accidental act of fate ...

The Raven and The Nightingale
Sing sweet Nightingale
Serenade outside my window
Shadow man watches my every move
Sullen,
head barely lifts off the pillow
Scythe in the corner and
Empty bottles by the bedside
He came and then he checked
But the shoe aint quite fit
Yet
Weary pleas, a symphony
Catatonic chrysalis her
Song sings on -
The raven talks to me
He whispers my name
"Cinderella, I beg of thee
Come and sit right here with me"
Thoughts tumble in my head
Considerations of a more permanent death
Who am I? ...

Dreams, a Lovers Requiem
I think about you when I'm high
And dream of you at night
Imaginary friends, Astral bound, Dreading morning light
You laid me on your alter, my soul surrenders now
A captive heart, willfully enslaved, and freely I am bound
I'm at your mercy, your knife at my neck
I offer myself for the sacrament
You whisper in my ear just how you intend to sanctify me
And cauterize my wounds with a kiss
Afflicted with affection only to be felt at night
