Reflection (of a mad man)
Not alone here
I feel a presence
movement
eyes watching
silently judging
criticising
evaluating each
and every hair, blemish,
crease, wrinkle
and extra pound
gained
I turn and catch sight
of an angry man
staring at me
in my bathroom
the audacity!
Is nowhere private
anymore?

On this day be my Valentine
for Cupid's arrow has made you mine
I live for your cuddles so divine
your soft, warm lips... sublime
a perfect smile and eyes that shine
always a good day when we dine
enjoying each other's company and time
sharing a meal and a glass of wine
you are beautiful; a woman in her prime
so on just this one day .....
......... will you be my Valentine?

Last Walk
soft steps on dew'd detritus
last Fall's leaves; withered humus
tree branches black 'gainst leaden sky
screaming their silent anguished cry
no one hears, no one to care
nature is resting; all is bare
I lie down; a branch for my head
thinking how long 'til I am dead
will they find my bones in spring
bluebells taking food there growing
ivy covered and food for worms
race now run; ended on my terms
sorry for subject thus ruminated
life now over; terminated.

Life is like foil wrapped chocs
you never know what's in the box
But why not treat it like a game of Chess?
Intrigue, Strategy, Plans and Plots.
Your life choices did impress
way back when you were 21
.............. but I must not digress;
Such maturity for one so young
You showed generosity and kindness
a bond created with your energising spirit
meals and laughter shared without fuss
A caring soul earning trust on merit.
You gave me far more
than money will ever equate.
Despite what's gone before ...
you never know what's in the box

Don't speak, nothing to be said
take your clothes off, get into bed
skin like ice! wrap up your feet
in my duvet; feel my body's heat
permeate your veins, muscles starting to relax
You came for comfort; On point of collapse
You slip into the curve of my arm
I'll shield and protect you from harm
Let me kiss away your desolate tears
Let me hold you to ease your fears
Gradually your shivers subside
your pounding heart against my side
You know I don't need an explanation
of the demise of this latest flirtation
as long as you...

Footprints (in the sand)
Ebb and flow
quick then
slow
breakers foaming
crashing, rumbling
sliding smoothly
up the beach
where I stand
just out of
reach
pebbles and shells
scattered on soft
yellow sand
here on this
island
where I grew up
lived and worked
and yes
partied too
enjoyed my youth
memories made
treasured
and now I'm here
gazing out to
sea
feeling the warmth
between
my toes
thinking about
my life
how it has been
so far ...
quick then

Across a busy bar
I watch you arrive
Radiant smile from afar
I see your face
Make-up applied
New outfit of

admire your grace
I see elegance, a touch of grey

No longer a youth

a torrent in
glorious
spate
As my rescuer you're
reincarnated
tables now
turned
Together or apart
two strong
people we've
become
Friendship now eternal
grateful for our
mutual
bond
