Where would I be
had I not
met
you?
All lost at sea
long before I
knew
you
You came to me
slowly drowning
accepting
fate
Now you have arisen
a torrent in
glorious
spate
As my rescuer you're
reincarnated
tables now
turned
Together or apart
two strong
people we've
become
Friendship now eternal
grateful for our
mutual
bond
Still part-time lovers
but let's not dwell
time will
tell
But I do wonder what
might have been
if we'd met
before

I believe that's so true. Many of my friendship circle, acquaintances etc are people I've met when travelling on planes, trains, hiking.

Beautiful expression. Really resonates. I think we have similar thoughts and ideas for expression. I wrote a piece entitled "what if" which tries to convey that possibility of as you say strangers being just friends we haven't met yet. I get this feeling all the time. Nice to know I'm not alone, not the only one to wonder what if. Also a piece I wrote today actually feels almost like a precursor to this poem. Whereas you have met that person and the opening lines are what if I hadn't met you, I focused my words on the person I haven't yet met. Still mystery to me. Also wrote a poem of the same title as this, yet with a different meaning entirely. Funny our creative thoughts are on the same wavelength!
