POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
I started writing during the Great Recession. That time turned into a hidden blessing. After becoming re-employed, I kept writing. My themes are always inspirational, colors, love, desert or Christian.
Along the way
Along the way
Birds whistle a tune
As if to set a mood
But I know not what to say.
The figure slowly thickens
In the distance;
My heart beats fast
My gait quickens.
From a dry rut
He approaches
And opens the conversation
One eye shut.
Birds whistle a tune
As if to set a mood
But I know not what to say.
The figure slowly thickens
In the distance;
My heart beats fast
My gait quickens.
From a dry rut
He approaches
And opens the conversation
One eye shut.

I saw a woman emerge from a shadow
I saw a woman emerge from a shadow
With a sly demeanor and look about.
Her sequined dress was aglow.
She didn't know I was also out.
I watched her remove a silver shoe
And stick her foot into the mere
One of the darkest ferrous blue
As if testing the temperature.
Her dress was even more brilliant -
After a countenance of approval -
When she crossed the bleak horizon -
Careful not to soak her lunar veil.
With a sly demeanor and look about.
Her sequined dress was aglow.
She didn't know I was also out.
I watched her remove a silver shoe
And stick her foot into the mere
One of the darkest ferrous blue
As if testing the temperature.
Her dress was even more brilliant -
After a countenance of approval -
When she crossed the bleak horizon -
Careful not to soak her lunar veil.

On Havana's white shore
On Havana's white shore
With each salt-infused whirl
That agitates its border
Every sand is a potential pearl.

Forgive me, young dandelion.
Forgive me, young dandelion.
I did not feign disinterest.
My mind has running thoughts
That stole my attention.
You only meant to be a friend.
I was not being callous.
Your seedlings ought to whisk
Them away upon a random wind.
I did not feign disinterest.
My mind has running thoughts
That stole my attention.
You only meant to be a friend.
I was not being callous.
Your seedlings ought to whisk
Them away upon a random wind.

April breezy and demure
April breezy and demure
Make yourself at home.
Ive kept some tea warm.
Here is a seat of nature
A trunk on which to sit.
The birds announced your arrival
By chirp and warble
Id been waiting for it.
I saw wildflowers in full flush
Arrive just ahead of you.
The bees buzz as if to say hello
And throng around the brittlebush.
Company is such excitement!
Show me your light winds
Stir them up in the mountains
But thirty days then what?
Oh, pretty April do not go...

Bless each palo verde bloom
Bless each palo verde bloom
Those cuplets kissed by the sun
My vision wants to consume
That thus have raptured my love.
See how they speckle the tree
With a burst of yellow bright
And upon the branches flit
By the wind that blows nigh
Leading me not to consider
The force behind nor why
But to admire how they arch
In reverence to the sky.
Those cuplets kissed by the sun
My vision wants to consume
That thus have raptured my love.
See how they speckle the tree
With a burst of yellow bright
And upon the branches flit

But to admire how they arch

A milky-eyed mourning dove
A milky-eyed mourning dove
Sat upon a tombstone - tacit -
Inside the grounds of St. Francis
To admire a cache betroved.
A sentinel's duty - it bears -
Not broken by a morning beam -
Even the shuffle of the wind
Could not disturb the atmosphere.
The dove - it eyed me peacefully -
Let out a feathered sigh.
I felt it - walking on by -
That blessed serenity.

A sentinel's duty - it bears -

The treetop glimmers outside my window
The treetop glimmers outside my window
As light, dancing upon the leaves
Shimmers off each leaf in soft yellow.
From afar, my attention is retrieved
By light, pure and perfectly aglow.
In the wind, swaying gently
Each leaf is twirled as a ballerina
Playing with my fragile jealousy.
I think I hear in the wind a viola
Oh, light would you dance with me?
As light, dancing upon the leaves
Shimmers off each leaf in soft yellow.
From afar, my attention is retrieved
By light, pure and perfectly aglow.
In the wind, swaying gently
Each leaf is twirled as a ballerina
Playing with my fragile jealousy.
I think I hear in the wind a viola
Oh, light would you dance with me?

Oh, joy! at the night sky
Oh, joy! at the night sky
And the wonder it declares.
How flirtatious! How they flare
The many stars on high!
There's Castor and Pollux
And Rigel and Betelgeuse
And look! Aldebaran bids adiσs
As he swaggers west.
And the wonder it declares.
How flirtatious! How they flare
The many stars on high!
There's Castor and Pollux
And Rigel and Betelgeuse
And look! Aldebaran bids adiσs
As he swaggers west.

Last night remains a scent
Last night remains a scent
Remembered at slow length
Drawn from the air, lingering about
A secret kept under my breath.
The union of your soft lips
Upon mine warm and precious
Mixed with your fingertips
Touching my arms were luxurious.
Your flirting, like your words, stumbled
Became nervous on cue.
Your eyes brown like truffles
Were delicious to my view.
Yes, above all else, your eyes
Are what I remember.
Let me kiss your eyes shut tonight
So that they might sleep better.
Remembered at slow length
Drawn from the air, lingering about
A secret kept under my breath.
The union of your soft lips
Upon mine warm and precious
Mixed with your fingertips
Touching my arms were luxurious.
Your flirting, like your words, stumbled
Became nervous on cue.
Your eyes brown like truffles

I was smote by words
I was smote by words
As a soldier with bullets
Til I harnessed their power
And they slight retreated lest
I would fire back
Then they came for my freedom
But they did not prevail;
No rights were forsaken
Because time outran evil
And faded to black.
As a soldier with bullets
Til I harnessed their power
And they slight retreated lest
I would fire back
Then they came for my freedom
But they did not prevail;
No rights were forsaken
Because time outran evil
And faded to black.

Music starts my little church
Music starts my little church
And bids us goers "come forward" -
Timid and cleansing at first -
Bringing voices to one accord
Then her voice waxing loud
And the piano's tempo
Make the atmosphere bound
To become a crescendo
When our song meets Him above
And the sweet chorus repeats.
Did such music greet Asaph
At the foot of heaven's gates?
And bids us goers "come forward" -
Timid and cleansing at first -
Bringing voices to one accord
Then her voice waxing loud
And the piano's tempo
Make the atmosphere bound
To become a crescendo
When our song meets Him above
And the sweet chorus repeats.
Did such music greet Asaph
At the foot of heaven's gates?
