POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
its all a fluke... or just insanity.
Internal Combustion
A painfully slow start to what was supposed to be a non-stop grinder of a gauntlet has thrown a wrench in the momentum of the course. The breaks between extreme bursts of efforts is proving to be a lot more tiring than the incremental load we usually bear during preparation for the final trek. Attitudes have shifted from driving enthusiasm to uncertain complacency. The rain has made what would have been a lengthy, lesson-oriented, course into an exercise of cram-study. The long hours between spells have cooled the sinews a little too much to be beneficial. The tendons scream while the mind...

The Condensation Line
Mornings, for me, are seldom this peaceful. It’s always not-enough-sleep this, wrong-side-of-the-bed that. Follow it up with a splash of leave-me-alone and it’s a dish not even worth throwing out. Erase its existence. This, on the other hand, was a dawn that just wouldn’t stop dishing out memories. From the crushing blow of losing my work session due to an update, to the outrageous brandy-sandwich breakfast at 4 am. From my first sunrise at 40,000 feet, to the disgust setting in from the bickering of co-passengers. The sinus infection and cabin pressure trying to blow my ears out. The...

This can't work out.
worlds apart, yet busy counting the lines on fingers
intertwined
spaghetti knots, tongue and hair
disproportionate blending of ecstasy and despair
convoluted
verbal pathways, life's directions,
the contention of her convictions
invaluable purity
the nectarous tones of her chords
play the keys of my organ
steal the key from my vehicle
become the key to finding serenity
electricity and fire
high tension power lines
every pore a volcanic vent
one glimpse and I'm...

Sweet revelations
cannot fully describe the gravity of what is
pulling me toward an indistinct future.
Starlit by inequity and adorned by selfish submission.
Within a universe smaller than my own ego
the howls of ambition beckon an awakening.
Drudging this sludge
inept and pliant, my stature
reveals more than my security allows.
Far less than my secrets can hold.
A busted vault, a smokescreen,
dead guards by the door.
Innocence reborn
like a flower in the fall
when everything else is dying.

The Battle of 10th September
There is a hell hidden within the sinews of the real world
comprised purely of physical suffering.
‘The greater the pleasure, the greater the pain’
Not sure how much merit I can give this statement.
The rise and fall of relief is merely a prologue for the main event.
The grueling torment, stretching seconds into minutes, minutes into hours.
An eternity of violent distress in one night.
Sometimes pain is all there is.
Unable to recall the start, the skirmish was already underway.
A quiet room, stabbed eerily with groans and wails ...

It was like any autumn afternoon.
High humidity, bright sun. Life bustling as usual.
I was on my way to work when I began to feel the first signs of discomfort. An isolated chill; pins on my bones. A gentle touch was enough to rattle the shield. I couldn’t have known what was to follow. In the middle of my day, the chill had transformed into a full-blown fever. Rising heat. Spiking pain. Every step, a test of strength. It wasn’t my first rodeo so I persisted. Little did I know, that my journey back home was going to introduce me to a new circle of hell.

Fall
Enflamed in orange
dark and bold
engulfed and smothered
the cries of crows
draws close a change
carried by the petrichor
senses ignite
a beautiful vein of light
speaks without judgment
the voice of the earth
the sigh of a heart
untouchable rain falls
will the leaves follow,
or just me?

Untitled, too
When your choices are clear
and your intention is true
not even god can deter you from walking
the path unfolding beneath your feet.
No manner of temptation or distraction
can draw your affixed attention
no twisted contraption of mental masturbation
will blur the lines that you’re meant to follow.
A slave to the cosmic fiddle with
eyes glaring at the truth rewriting itself
in the blackboards of your mind
Solutions slowly disentangling the neuron knots.
Deny all you want as you will
there is little hope in going...

OhK
I never thought I’d see the day when I would agnise the depths of my desire.
Ingrained in every cell; the swell of emotion
ebbs and flows into each passing day
like the waves we’re all familiar with.
A calling card;
reminding me of the expectation of love,
the anticipation of hope,
and the abuse of obstinacy.
I learn from it everyday.
Paying respect and gratitude as tuition for the lesson called ‘life.’
Freshman year, every year.
Can’t complete the puzzle even when all of the pieces fit.
There is meaning...

Grateful
I am grateful but I’m lost
there is an emptiness
unexplained; unexplored
behind doors the size of skyscrapers
salvation rests uneasy, impatient.
the block of lead on my back
folding my shoulders in
rending my arms from me
separating the sinews
that hold them together.
a victim of weakness,
of disparaging influences
completely subdued by the fragile
trigger of the welcoming abyss;
a home far from home.
happiness – a dream short lived
reveals itself to me every night
while the world swallows...

Going out
I sat alone at the table waited on by a lab technician in a hazmat suit.
The kind of situation that would seem normal
if I was ordering weapons-grade uranium to-go.
His muffled voice could barely cut through the triple layered protection
designed to keep him immune to even the wrath of god.
A few awkward chuckles and invisible faux-smiles later he was on his way
to the reactor to retrieve my lunch.
I notice the only other person bold enough to brave the new world
like me a few tables to my right.
His gaze is sharp and full of intent....

Unwealthy
She often brings more to most discussions than I do.
It’s seldom that you’ll see me start things that have a definitive end.
I usually end things that never began.
Then, proceed to whine about it in the aftermath.
But it’s her brilliance that draws me to her.
The blinding light of clarity that she exudes
burns the eyes of this blind moth
struggling desperately to be worthy of it.
I’m poor.
I’m poor of heart and mind;
of strength and will;
of words and wisdom.
But in her presence my idiocy...
