POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
its all a fluke... or just insanity.
DENV
It was like any autumn afternoon.
High humidity, bright sun. Life bustling as usual.
I was on my way to work when I began to feel the first signs of discomfort. An isolated chill; pins on my bones. A gentle touch was enough to rattle the shield. I couldn’t have known what was to follow. In the middle of my day, the chill had transformed into a full-blown fever. Rising heat. Spiking pain. Every step, a test of strength. It wasn’t my first rodeo so I persisted. Little did I know, that my journey back home was going to introduce me to a new circle of hell.

Fall
Enflamed in orange
dark and bold
engulfed and smothered
the cries of crows
draws close a change
carried by the petrichor
senses ignite
a beautiful vein of light
speaks without judgment
the voice of the earth
the sigh of a heart
untouchable rain falls
will the leaves follow,
or just me?

Untitled, too
When your choices are clear
and your intention is true
not even god can deter you from walking
the path unfolding beneath your feet.
No manner of temptation or distraction
can draw your affixed attention
no twisted contraption of mental masturbation
will blur the lines that you’re meant to follow.
A slave to the cosmic fiddle with
eyes glaring at the truth rewriting itself
in the blackboards of your mind
Solutions slowly disentangling the neuron knots.
Deny all you want as you will
there is little hope in going...

OhK
I never thought I’d see the day when I would agnise the depths of my desire.
Ingrained in every cell; the swell of emotion
ebbs and flows into each passing day
like the waves we’re all familiar with.
A calling card;
reminding me of the expectation of love,
the anticipation of hope,
and the abuse of obstinacy.
I learn from it everyday.
Paying respect and gratitude as tuition for the lesson called ‘life.’
Freshman year, every year.
Can’t complete the puzzle even when all of the pieces fit.
There is meaning...

Grateful
I am grateful but I’m lost
there is an emptiness
unexplained; unexplored
behind doors the size of skyscrapers
salvation rests uneasy, impatient.
the block of lead on my back
folding my shoulders in
rending my arms from me
separating the sinews
that hold them together.
a victim of weakness,
of disparaging influences
completely subdued by the fragile
trigger of the welcoming abyss;
a home far from home.
happiness – a dream short lived
reveals itself to me every night
while the world swallows...

Going out
I sat alone at the table waited on by a lab technician in a hazmat suit.
The kind of situation that would seem normal
if I was ordering weapons-grade uranium to-go.
His muffled voice could barely cut through the triple layered protection
designed to keep him immune to even the wrath of god.
A few awkward chuckles and invisible faux-smiles later he was on his way
to the reactor to retrieve my lunch.
I notice the only other person bold enough to brave the new world
like me a few tables to my right.
His gaze is sharp and full of intent....

Unwealthy
She often brings more to most discussions than I do.
It’s seldom that you’ll see me start things that have a definitive end.
I usually end things that never began.
Then, proceed to whine about it in the aftermath.
But it’s her brilliance that draws me to her.
The blinding light of clarity that she exudes
burns the eyes of this blind moth
struggling desperately to be worthy of it.
I’m poor.
I’m poor of heart and mind;
of strength and will;
of words and wisdom.
But in her presence my idiocy...

Adrift
I find that it is easy to get lost—
In the twinkling stars adorned by the summer night
In the slow and arduous shape-shifting of clouds
In the abundant air saturating my breath
In the volatile rage of a metaphoric stab wound
In the pain justified by betrayal
In justice that warrants bigotry
In sloth
In the apathy of sinners
In envy
In the triumph of winners
In greed
In the absence of clarity
In the defiance of disparity
In the forest of sanctuary
In the abyss of despair

Indulge Me
like you do these charlatans
that claim to be
poets. they are not even
remotely related to the words
they pen.
like you do your exes
who, in spite of all the
hurt, are still welcome.
floating above thin sheets of ice.
gracious idiots.
like you do an artificial smile
that clings to the fallacy that invented it,
unknowingly. lingering
for a chance to
be real.
like you do love
not for others, but for the sake of
love. there is little
they truly know of
true...

Doubt
Self assuming dear doubt,
I have something to tell you.
So needed yet so unnecessary
You persuade the stone;
Dissuade the flesh
Entirely on your own.
You infiltrate the calm;
Spy on chaos, never alone
You settle for destroying lives
while fully capable of destroying civilizations overnight.
You’re a rogue wave, in a sea of emotion,
Racing toward the nearest ship
You never fail to attend an occasion;
The perfect guest, punctually speaking.
You keep me from wandering;
Can’t stop...
I have something to tell you.
So needed yet so unnecessary
You persuade the stone;
Dissuade the flesh
Entirely on your own.
You infiltrate the calm;
Spy on chaos, never alone
You settle for destroying lives
while fully capable of destroying civilizations overnight.

Racing toward the nearest ship
You never fail to attend an occasion;
The perfect guest, punctually speaking.
You keep me from wandering;
Can’t stop...
