Internal Combustion

A painfully slow start to what was supposed to be a non-stop grinder of a gauntlet has thrown a wrench in the momentum of the course. The breaks between extreme bursts of efforts is proving to be a lot more tiring than the incremental load we usually bear during preparation for the final trek. Attitudes have shifted from driving enthusiasm to uncertain complacency. The rain has made what would have been a lengthy, lesson-oriented, course into an exercise of cram-study. The long hours between spells have cooled the sinews a little too much to be beneficial. The tendons scream while the mind dreams but not loud or long enough. It’s a pretty sight that has me worried for the long run. What feels easy at the start might turn out to be immeasurably difficult near the end.

Author's Note
The flow of the course was hampered by rain and we were all feeling it.
