Where He Lies


I’ve come to catch your
ashes
on the winds of
winter hours—

It is all I have of
you, until
the clocks melt away and
take time with them, counting
down the seconds
to eternity.

I’ve no more tears, save
what fills the space
where my smile was, and
pericardium, sans
heart—

You still hold
those; keep them
safe for me, in
your hands that
fascinated even you, until
I no longer need
to leave thoughts and
guitar pick daisies
upon your grave.

I will be whole
once more, and
you can replace them
when
you touch me again.

VALENTINE

My security detail welcomes me
Sound of aircon and a country heartbreak
On the radio "my heart's as low
As only a woman knows"
They wish me Happy Valentine
And ask about you

Your voice's become a memory
Not your phone voice but your real voice
As if I'm forgetting what you meant

Your voice dies
I want to charge the phone
When I do we lose reception
Any desire here upsets the equilibrium
Its better to want nothing

The red bus on the red road
Has painted in blue on the back
GOD BLESS DA PAYCENT

Blues sings on the radio
"Take me to hills
Where the airs fresher there
And we'll do nothing but beer and stare"

And I stare at the Messenger
Because I want you to say
"I know you done me wrong
But you done me some good to"

Endures

How can I find a way to say I love you,
A way that is yours and only yours?
How could I take it and make it new?
Yet in a way that still endures?      
       
I won't always laugh at your jokes,    
Sometimes I'll say that they're shit,    
You'll frown and feel provoked,    
But I know later we'll laugh about it.  
   
You may act like an arsehole for no reason,
Then I'll overreact and become upset,
And even when I might not like you,
I'll still believe you're perfect.        
     
Some days I'll burst into tears over nothing,
You'll shrug and not know what to do,
But it's fine, I don't really need anything,      
As long as I know I have you.        
     
You won't always buy me flowers,        
I won't always bother to cook your tea,      
Still even in the hardest hours,        
There's nowhere else I'd rather be.        
       
Living with me won't be easy,        
Nor will be living with you,        
You'll be grumpy and I'll be crazy,        
But I know how you like your brew.        
       
The days that you're unbearable,        
The days I am too,        
I'll always find you loveable,        
And you'll always love me too.        
     
When we can't always agree,        
When we get on each other's nerves,
I'll remember what you mean to me,    
Because you'll always be my world.        
     
If I ever begin to doubt us,        
Which sometimes in life you do,        
It doesn't matter because I already know,    
Our love is real and tested and true.        
     
So that's how I'll say I love you,        
In a way that is only yours,        
No matter what our life leads us through,    
You're the one my heart adores.

Annoying

Gosh you do annoy me,
In such a great scope of ways,
You're annoying without even trying,
But I want you to always stay.

Why do you have to make me smile?
When I really want to sulk?
I love you even when I don't want to love you,
I can't help it and that's your fault.

I can't seem to stop thinking about you,
But for God's sake, stop leaving out the sugar tin,
You're driving me mad and I'm mad about you,
But please, just close the lid on the bin.

Yes, you do get on my nerves,
And I love, love, winding you up,
You went home earlier this evening,
I already miss you and I can't stop.

We had a bath earlier today,
You started a water fight,
And of course, you got my hair wet,
I'll get my revenge, it's alright.

I'm lay in bed and I'm so cold,
It's always so warm when you're near,
I might always say you annoy me a lot,
But nothing annoys me more than not having you here.

I love you so much that that annoys me as well,
It annoys me how many different things I love about you,
It annoys me how you can make my heart skip a beat,
I know that I could never be without you-
and that annoys me too!

VALENTINE DELIVERY WISH

I was on his route that day when he
walked up to my door to deliver more
than my mail order lingerie, Special D'.

Cash up front he said with his boodwah
eyes, inviting himself in, following me
to the kitchen as I grabbed for my tote.

He straddled a table chair, leaning back
while I tried to hide the way I studied him
from under my bangs, unzipped my wallet.

He opened his pants bold as brass, and  
twice as hard, with sunlight casting a
crotch shadow my way from the window.

I tossed the greenbacks and he tossed my
parcel telling me to open it quick, so I
sat on the table's edge and pried the flaps,

throwing some of the Styrofoam peanuts at
him, so we laughed when I pulled out fuchsia
bra' and panties guaranteed not to break.

Or are they, by his eyebrows dancing, so I
asked "What's up your sleeve?" and he said
"More like down those panties, put 'em on!"

Rising from the chair that fell with a bang,
and him moving like a tom cat who smells a
she in heat, pouncing before I could finish,

and beefsteak hands showing how to turn  
new lingerie into damaged goods, then
pullin' plow like nobody's business, his spigot

spillin' in, drillin' and fillin', flippin' burgers
on the side, gawd I hollered like he's
double humpin' me both ways from Sunday!

Fuck, I love that delivery man, don't care  
how he plays me, get on the phone, maxin'  
cards, ordering ev'rything, 'cause he's a keeper!

Thank you, those who voted my poem. Didn't expect it, it was just a spur-of-moment literary doodle. Just goes to show sometimes following your creative heart can win more than you bargain for and that the smallest and simplest can be the best.
