Poetry Contest Description
Write a poetry dedicated to the soldiers and army of your country.
Warrior: Last Words
I was a warrior.
I dressed in the armor of battle,
I took up the weapons of war,
And I journeyed to lands where
Freedom was shackled by Tyranny.
Lands in every part of this world,
Since the beginning of time. I fought
Because of the beliefs in my heart:
That there is a God,
And there is a Good Cause.
That all people have a right
To live and think without fear.
That my family should not suffer as others do,
And that others should enjoy the same peace as my family.
Leaders of countries have always had their own
Agendas, but that never mattered to me,
Because my beliefs were good and just.
And because of those beliefs my life was taken
By a small, ridiculous thing like a stone, or an
Arrowhead, or a bullet.
A bullet: no more than an inch long and weighing
Perhaps a few ounces, but lethal enough when it
Pierced my armor and found that vulnerable spot
In my sacrificial body.
And if my corpse was returned home and placed in
Sacred ground, or left to rot on the battlefield, my
Family mourned none-the-less. Their tears will
Moisten the earth, and flowers will grow.
When my soul is placed in another able body,
I will don my armor, take up my weapons,
And I will fight again.
And I will die again.
I was a warrior.
I dressed in the armor of battle,
I took up the weapons of war,
And I journeyed to lands where
Freedom was shackled by Tyranny.
Lands in every part of this world,
Since the beginning of time. I fought
Because of the beliefs in my heart:
That there is a God,
And there is a Good Cause.
That all people have a right
To live and think without fear.
That my family should not suffer as others do,
And that others should enjoy the same peace as my family.

I knew a friend..
A friend who gave up his life for the country.
I knew a friend who only had images of blood in his mind.
That blood followed him wherever he went.
I hugged him everyday as if he would die the next day.
He looked at me as if I was the embodiment of sin.
With hate in his eyes,
He pointed a loaded gun at me.
I cried until my face turned blue which made him glue himself back to reality.
War never leaves.
For all you ever see at war is death.
Then again.. All life ever gave me was a ticking bomb to my death.
For war follows you and clings to you like the ultimate virus.
I knew a friend...now I only see sorrow in his eyes.
For all you ever do at war is mourn for others death.
And when I heard two knocks on my door.. I knew it wasn't just a hunch. I knew you were dead.
I miss you my dear friend..
A friend who gave up his life for the country.

Soldier Boy (Reprised)
============================
-
there are those that do
regard their soldiers as nawt
more than tools to break
and then only to discard
i am not one of those fools
.
soldiers and marines
put their lives on the line for
some idiots cause
oil barons profits perhapse
holly rollers, theocrats
.
i must say that there
are more to your lives than that
more than your lives spent
expended as some lying
politicians capital

MEN OF FEW WORDS
http://fc08.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2014/149/d/4/arlington_cemetery_by_engrvv-d7k7hfl.jpg
Valiant men who have fought and died
to preserve the freedom we now enjoy
shed their blood so we may live in
perfect harmony in a not so perfect world.
Across the valley of death
they have fearlessly trodden,
bravely crossed the river of woes,
slept in mosquito-infested jungles…
until they reached the killing fields.
Words of wisdom from officers—
food to their lonely souls
Sounds of mortars and guns—
music to their deaf ears
Bodies of dead allies and foes alike—
sore eyes to their hearts of steel
Men of few words they were
because their guns
mainly do the talking!
On this special day you guys deserve
songs of praises and hymns of love
My words may not be good enough
to console your weary souls;
so in parting, just remember
I gave you my words,
and a hand salute.

"resist not evil"
they stand armed only with the conviction of a thousand voices
we watch them on television
dismissing many as subversive fools
yet they are the sentinels that keep the jackboots from kicking in our very doors
clinging to vespers of hope that we're all not just corporate whores
they've stood toe to toe with tanks
and armed police
Shouting their anthem of "No Justice - No Peace!"
arrested for daring not to conform
beaten because injustice should never be the norm
they don't exalt in the teachings of Alexander the Great
nor Ghenghis Khan
and neither Bush
but rather the chosen sermons of a country preacher named King
who learned from an Indian lawyer how caged birds do sing
their blood is in our streets so the callous are spared
no medals for these soldiers
who we can't afford to show they're scared
