Poetry Contest

What do you think 2014 will be like?
Write a poem or prose, any style, length, no collabs, about what you think 2014 will be like. Write about what you think is coming along this year, personally, professionally, worldwide--your choice or all together, or go wild and write a total fantasy year for yourself about everything you'd like to see happen and wish for.

Have fun and Happy New Year!

2014 :-The climate is getting warmer

Climate change has arrived
Its truth has not been contrived
Scientists who ought to know
Produced the data that does show
The climate is getting warmer

The carbon in the atmosphere
Keeps in the sun's heat I fear
The cause of this is in dispute
Some say its because we pollute
The climate is getting warmer

That the problem is man-made
Has been convincingly displayed
But some challenge the evidence
Believing in human innocence
The climate is getting warmer

Whatever the cause we must contend
With more severe weather trends
Stronger winds and hotter sun
Getting more so in the long run
The climate is getting warmer

During this year we must invent
Ways that we can circumvent
The suffering when there's a repeat
Of stronger storms and greater heat
The climate is getting warmer

We must all hope that human kind
Can make use of it collective mind
To devise new ways to use the earth
Or food supplies will be in dearth
The climate is getting warmer

All these problems need our thought
We know the future will be fraught
But action now will make it more sure
That future generations will be secure
The climate is getting warmer

The Winds of Change

Personally, I think,
society,
will never change.
They will continue
to hate,
stereotyping each other
by unnecessary names.

My goal, is to
never fall under
their
influence.
I don't want
to follow that
same old
sequence.

I want to rise
from the ashes,
I want to be a
better person.
I'll work
and try my best
to not be
a burden.

I feel the winds,
pushing me forward.
Urging me to continue
the journey.
Though long and
difficult.
I'll see through
the fog,
even if it's dense,
and blurry.

People have told me,
that I've changed.
I seem calmer.
My scars have healed,
I'm no longer a
lamb,
going to the slaughter.

I'm no longer,
on the path of
self destruction.
This time,
I'm taking a
different direction.

I will smile
and mean it.
I will laugh,
and mean it.
I will love,
and love it.
I will be happy,
and be satisfied,
within.

The sweet sounds of the Holidays

I stare at the reflection in the mirror
can’t help but nod at the silly bastard
survived another year
with all the shit you’ve  smoked and poked
it should have buried you years ago
I see the secret in that devilish smile
It’s those damn bells
the Salvation Army bells that drive you to the point of insanity
with every smiling prick that asks the same fucking question
with each trip in and out of the store
“do you care to give today”
I look forward to these words throughout the year
yes crazy as it sounds, this keeps me alive
I tell myself you’re going to make it another year
just to see their faces
ohhh the joy of it
when you say no mother fucker I don’t want to give today
stop ringing that irritating bell before I shove it up your ass
and just before I walk away, I say happy holidays
be blessed

- Blood in the Street -

Brother, have you heard the news today?
There is blood in the street.

There is no drum
There is no beat

Just blood in the street

"Brother, are you sure that's the news today? It wasn't on E News. I was watching 'The Kardashians' and they never mentioned it. Brother have you taken your 'One a Day' All natural multivitamin? Brother, are you sure that's the news? I certainly didn't see that in this month's 'People Magazine'. I don't even think there's an app for that."

Brother Listen!
Didn't you here the news today?
The president reads from his 'Fix Our Country' wrap sheet
While bullets fly and blood on the street
They march and shout for Justice
But now the street is stained red with the blood of oppression
They keep on marching, drenched with the sweat of freedom

"Way down there?
In that God forsaken country?
Why should we give a damn?!
It's not like it's important to us.
It's Africa for Christ's sake!
Plus my iPhone doesn't get any reception down there, and there's not even a McDonald anywhere! Did I mention that there is not nearly enough TV channels? Even Dish Network gets you at least 2000 channels. And what's the deal with their computers? If it's not an Apple product, it's not worth having.
Let them figure their own problems out!
Ok fine. I did see just a bit about it.

---'The tyrant orders virgin guard to kill protesters.'---

Did you see those chicks? Oh man! They're so hot. This one girl was so sexy. Fully stacked. Huge rack. She looked just like Kim Kardashian.
There was this other part. I didn't really pay attention.

---'All of them terrorists oppressed by a tyrant terrorist.'---

That's what the news said anyways.
Why should I give a damn?"

But Brother, Listen!
Have you heard the news today?

Peole trying to stand up on their feet
As their blood flows into the street
All the world says "Man, that's neat!"
But have you ever seen your own blood spill into the street?!
Mothers and Fathers
And sons and daughters
All spill their blood onto the street

Way down there
Where dreams turn to bullets
And the cries of anticipation
Become the cry of a nation
Where the homestead is the battlefront
Where Justice can no longer wait for the approval of international aid
Where tomorrow waits for the sun to rise
And the many long nights are bright with the moon of hope

"Oh that. Ya, sure. Where it's ok to be friends with the bad guys, just so long as we can get some of that black gold. Look, I don't care what happens. I'm doing just fine. Hey, they're all terrorists anyways, so who cares? If it were up to me I'd just nuke them. Done! problem solved! That's a really good idea! I should totally tweet that!"

If that's how we show care
Then who can we depend on
To defend us to the end?

All the world looks, taking the back seat
As the world dies
and

- Blood! -

on the street.

New Year Predictions. (Nothing ever changes)

Say hello to the climate,
warmer carbon skies
atmosphere made of fear
Heat disputes pollute and
challenge the innocent
Invent of true freedom.

Suffering and death still rules
the future as secure society
begins to have goals to influence
and follow burden on a journey
to the dense blurry slaughter
as the mirror laughs at the silly
smoke and devilish insanity.

Faces blessed as drums play
down the streets, listen to the
blood of injustice oppress and
protest the tyrants ruling countries
as bullets continue to ring through
the battlefront.  Problem solved.

A sudden outbreak of a rare strain of flu will kill of the majority of people.
The flu virus mutates and begins to effect the brain.
Turning ordinary humans into bloodthirsty freaks.
The government is lost and many cities are entirely overtaken by these ravenous freaks.

Happy new years
