The Key to my Heart


When the door slammed shut,
I threw the key really far.
I picked up a blade and began to cut.
No, not my wrists. Just the stars.

With a plunk and plink they all fell,
Their strings murdered, tangled now.
Now they light the skies in hell,
Littering my heart like petals, a rotting vow.

When I walked away:

When that door slammed shut
I turned and walked away
Never looking back
I had nothing left to say
When that door slammed shut
I really should have stayed.
Maybe if I go back now,
no, Nothing will have changed
Opportunities are left in me
Though the air has gotten thin
since I walked away.
