Anger, fear, tears normal response to disasters
http://www.foxnews.com/health/2013/04/19/anger-fear-tears-normal-response-to-disasters/

Anger, crying jags and nightmares are all normal reactions for both survivors of the Boston Marathon bombings and witnesses to the mayhem. While the injured and those closest to the blasts are most prone to psychological aftershocks, even people with no physical injuries and those like Greeley might feel the emotional impact for weeks afterward as they struggle to regain a sense of security. What's not clear is who will suffer lingering anxiety, depression or even post-traumatic stress disorder.
But specialists say that how resilient people are helps determine how quickly they bounce back. The resilient tend to be people who share their emotions before becoming overwhelmed, who know how to cope with stress, and who have the ability to look for a silver lining - such as focusing on bystanders who helped the wounded.

Gone With The Gun

Senseless killings beyond my comprehension
A human tragedy without apprehension
The whole nation mourns so does the heaven
Gloomy days shrouded the yuletide season

Young lives were gone because of a gun
How many more shall perish before it's gone
Many hearts were filled with grief and broken
Memories were etched on our souls as a token

Gun control and regulations became a loud cry
Some lawmakers agreed - it's worth a try
But for an association who likes to keep it high
More guns will keep us safe and dry

"The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun,
someone said, is a good guy with a gun."
Seems like Buffalo Bill in the days of Deadwood
Also blamed media, video games and Hollywood

While the debates are going on
More lives will never see another dawn
Will I live to see the day
that everyone lives in harmony?

Weigh-in your fifty-cent opinion
Before anyone goes into oblivion
On the pros and cons of gun control
As well as an armed posse patrol

Do guns really kill people
or people kill people?

Fourteen Virgins

http://2media.nowpublic.net/images//d8/32/d8329dba7a1a78e2216ba99684248cb2.jpg

There once was an old man who believed
He will fuck fourteen virgins if he delivered
Chaos and destruction to enemies of his faith
Just the thought of it - he can't hardly wait
For the day to come and meet his fate

One day a smart-ass kid noticed this old man
all wrapped-up while riding in his rented van
"Why are you all wrapped-up;
it's fucking warm, can't you see old fool?"

"Why do you care?" was the old man's reply
as he showed him a bomb around his waist
"You maybe laughing at me now,
but you will envy me later
when you see me fucking fourteen virgins."

Ram your van against that coming school bus
The old man commanded without a fuss
As he pointed his gun at the young man's head
Nervously he followed and drove straight ahead
Never had sex before his untimely demise

Never underestimate and mock the old
You might end up like a fool...
Read his thoughts instead,
and follow the path of his inner soul;
you could learn a thing or two,
and stay the course of enlightenment.

Now, who is the smart one and who is the fool?
Drink your cognac and tell me while you drool
just thinking of having sex with one of the fourteen virgins
Do you think it's worth the pain forever losing your genes?

PTSD Syndrome

http://www.weldreality.com/image-humvee-fire.jpg

You've been in and out of the war zone
ever since you got out from high school
Now without a dick and forgotten
flashback episodes of the ambush
which lead to losing your manhood
keep coming to your mind, bringing to a boil
your last ounce of blood thickened by turmoil

Anxiety is your constant companion
survivor guilt knocks at your conscience
as repeated nightmarish hellscape
keeps you from getting a  good night sleep.

You became hypervigilant
and tried to fight back
in your next flasback episode
Non-stop firing of your gun
only subsided when you woke up
terrified and heart-broken
at the sight of your only son,
and beloved beautiful wife
laying motionless and dead.

Your whole being was frozen
and slowly melting
as if heaven and earth
clamp down on your rage
Your tongue became numb
and can't utter any word
Finally your chest exploded
shouting, "OMG, what have I done?"
These words keep reverberating
in your nearly-deranged mind.

Instead of treating you
of post-traumatic stress disorder
they put you in jail--
What a fucked-up system!

Another bad news came--
your brother won't be able to enroll
next semester or maybe never
as educational assistance
was cut due to sequestration
Your blood boils once more,
and escaped from jail
Went straight to Congress,
and unleashed your wrath of hell
It doesn't matter now
if they do nothing at all...

“Fire in the Hole (What Some Bombers Do For Pussy)”
http://cdn1.elitedaily.com/elite/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/boston_bombing_suspects_104745324.jpg
(An Anger-Poem against Radicalism)

I’m a religious guy,
I pray several times a day
to my God,
he’s so special,
for real,
going to give me
some big-rewards,
a harem of virgins,
what a deal.
Oh, I can’t wait to
pop some
tight-cherry,
my afterlife
is going to be merry,
I ain’t no fairy.
Nope,
no coward here folks,
I don’t even drink beer,
no joke,
how’s that
for being devout.

By the way,
I don’t give
a flying-fuck
about anybody
but me.
You see,
I’m going to build
a big-ass-bomb,
put it in
a pressure-cooker
with
some nails
and
explosives,
then
detonate it
with a Timex.
I pray it
mangles hundreds
of women and men,
maybe even
some small children,
blow them all
to smithereens,
the more,
the merrier.

And, it doesn’t matter
if they kill me,
I’m going to fuck
my eyeballs out,
busting all that
tight pussy
my God’s promised
me in Heaven.
Oh Lord,
fire in the hole!

NOTE: This poem is not meant to offend any particular ethnic group or religion.  It is merely a character-anger poem, which was asked for by the competition moderator.

I am very unhappy to have any  blatantly anti-Muslim poem as we do not yet know whether the events in Boston are the result of people who are Muslim extremists.  We cannot jump to any conclusions about what really happened
until the US government and the International Agencies determine what happened, who planned it and why. I am disappointed at people who hate without ever forgiving.  I was taught to love my neighbour.  I have no idea what to do in this situation.  The views of the poets posting in this competition are THEIR VIEWS.  Given the right in the USA, Canada and the UK to write any hateful thing you want to....please do not respond to me but to the person or persons you feel are offending you.

I THINK YOU MISSED MY DISCLAIMER.  It is well documented that virgins have been promised to young radical young men who engage in such activities.  The poem is merely one viewpoint and not necessarily mine.  You asked in part for a poem about ANGER?  The fact of the matter is this kind of stuff really upsets people. Remember, there were Christian bombers blowing up abortion clinics.  They make people angry too.  Radicalism is evil any way you look at it.  Plain and simple!  I saw it first hand...lost three friends to an IED...very similar to the ones used in Boston, London, Madrid, Mumbai, Beirut, etc.

The poem is not meant to offend, just to show cause and effect.

Peace through poetry.

Prayer of Saint Francis of Assisi

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury,pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen

I wrote this poem last year....and I was hoping that this was the type of poem I would see in this competition.  Anger can be vented in a way that does not have to harm others.

IS IT SAFE TO COME OUT NOW?

I used to be afraid of flying

Then I got over it

Then came 9/11 and repercussions

Now I do not do it

I used to ride a bus to work

Until one day, one exploded

There were terrorists accused

Now I work, but commute by car

I used to ride a car to work

Until road rage happened

Before my eyes, a shooting

The other driver died

Now I do my work inside

My two children

Go to school

Where they found

A young man

With a knife in his hand

My nephew missed being killed

While attending University

Now he takes courses online

Thank you Phoenix University

They fired a man

From his job

He went nuts

Got a gun

Shot his boss

Everyone thought

The boss

Deserved what he got

But what if I had been the boss?

Going to the movies

Used to be a treat

Until the Colorado gunman

Made it unsafe

Now we get Netflix

Fix our own popcorn

The living room

Is safe, I think.

Any way
you slice it,
bombs maim,
they hurt,
they kill,
so thrilling.
We can act
all-forgiving,
float on
soothing thoughts
but,
if it
were your child,
your beautiful wife,
the love of you life
lying in a
pool of crimson,
you'd
want
payback.
Some
speak of solace
the kind
found in
thick
ancient books.
While that
might work
on the surface,
inside you'd be
thinking
about other
solutions,
not happy thoughts.
It's easy to
be so chic,
so smug
in our
furnished
apartments
with full bellies,
pointing fingers,
trying
to figure this out.
Check it,
we're animals people,
plain and simple,
out here it's
survival
of the fittest.
I know
who I want
in my foxhole,
my God
not yours,
'cause
he's right,
wrong.

Strider - your poems give me the feeling you have been in combat and may have served in Iraq.  If you give us where you are coming from - it may help understand why you write what you write. Peace be unto you.

"Seasoned Veterans"
http://media.komonews.com/images/100610_arlington_cemetery.jpg
Let's bow our heads,
let's pray together,
let's sugar-coat the truth,
let's hide it away
in pleasantries,
let's stick Band-Aids
on the human condition,
it's bleeding
and
we can't stop it.
But, at least
we can get
a gold star for trying.
Perhaps,
a marble gravestone
for
us,
seasoned veterans
who cry
without insult.
