THE KINDNESS OF STRANGERS

Friends gone

Family none

Only sustained

By the kindness

Of those I do not know

A misfit among my own

Jealous of other people’s ability

To ensure their security

By personality

Not me

Every

Kind act

Has been that

Of an angelic soul

Who guided me

Helped me

Is this just me?

Or is kindness given

More to the virtuous

More to the attractive

More to the young

More to…..who?

Until then

I must thank them

Who helped me

In spite of my undesirability.

Kindly

Flowers dewed by teardrops
Coldness in blazing sunshine
Clutching hands on handkerchiefs
Sounds of soil against the planks
Laying six feet deep
Goodbye Mother
See you at glory’s dawn
Kindly hands lead me away
To sing my silent dirge

Falling tears on glazed cheeks
Reaching hands across the line
The drone of airplane’s engines
Accompanying almost unheard words
Of sad goodbye
Kindly words soothed hurts
As I turned away from the door
To wail alone under my sheets
Lonely bed hugs on my own

Linger the gloom of added years
Lived too long with too much fears
Of unsolved lives of then and now
All static words unlived unfulfilled
Fleeting thoughts as yet unsaid
To one called dear and beloved
Kindly words do sooth this mind
Comforting assurances of what will be
In life with love filled with laughter

Kindness through touches and words
Indeed they soothe the tired minds.

The sweetest, kindest soul is on my mind.
Just can't believe, what a find.
Until I met you I had been running blind.
A beautiful soul, you just can't hide
Thank you for your smile, it's so very kind.
It couldn't have come at a much better time.
Understanding now how life can be sublime.
You so truly are a very special one of a kind.
Can only hope that forever you'll have my behind.

Your Kind Of Kindness

You smoothed out all my roughest edges
You saved me from jumping off frightning ledges
And landing on the jagged rocks below
You opened your heart when I had no place to go
You sheltered me with your acts of kindness
You showed me the way when I suffered from blindness
You thawed me out with your warm embrace
When I thought of the world as an extremely cold place
Filled with emptiness the sorrow's abundant
Words of appreciation I have for you is redundant
Because a thank you is far too modest to say
I'll never have a sufficient amount of money to repay
My debt to you for nurturing me as your own
If it was humanly possible I'd have you cloned
So everyone can experience the extent of your help
But you're doing an exceptional job by yourself

Blanket

It takes a certain kind of something
to shut down every feeling
and wander aimlessly through every day
one numbed step at a time

It's a bums life,the lazy way out
no doubt about it
sometimes though it's the only way to go
build oneself back from scratch
and I know the score with that

you can get the measure of people, passers by
who will lower their eyes as if
it's all their fault you're sitting on the ground
with a thin blanket wrapped around your legs
or the suits who would run past
only it might scuff their new shoes

mostly though the money, the notes
would come from the twenty somethings
wanting to impress their honeys with the gesture
making a big scene akin to a Broadway play
and I'd say "hey! thanks man you're one in a million"
then they'd go on their way
all set for whatever reward they'd be getting
later that night

I still recall the Wednesday night mid December
when the rain fell thick and slow
the old couple who passed then stopped
they walked on again
towards the many shops stocked for the festivities
after a while they came back to me
gifted me with a brand new winter coat
and a crisp fifty note

then we talked and he handed me his phone ,said
"for god sake man swallow your pride and ring your home
this is no time to be sitting alone in the rain
you have absolutely nothing to gain from this
it's time to stop taking the piss and grow some
you know, our son died two years ago
we never even knew he was sick"

then they hugged each other
and I thought of my mother and father
how I'd rather be in front of a blazing fire
so I rang, I said I was sorry
they said they were too and "we miss you"

nuff said.

I thank all of you, these are some moving entries and I have been so uplifted reading them. All so far have been truly wonderful and very different so it will be a tough decision.
Any other entries still welcome....
I think this has been my fav of the comps I have ran as they all warmed my heart-thank you all, peace, Miki

My sincere apologies for being late picking the winner on this one-I was quite sick.
There were a couple here that I had a real inner debate on and have decided that for the descriptiveness of the kind act-I choose Eamonn (leperochan)-Congrats to you and as I stated before, these were very good submissions. A big thank's to all of you.
