DEARLY BELOVED – GIVE ME A SIGN

Dear love of my life

You have died and gone to heaven

Please show me a sign

Any sign at all – that your soul survived

Pick me flowers from the sky

They appeared in my garden this morning

Paint me pictures on the sand

I saw the heart in the sand near the sea

As fleeting as promises made

We would love each other forever

As halo fizzles in the wind

I can see it is thee

Now that I know

We are still together

I can stop crying

And raise our children

The way we wanted them to be

Thank you for the sign Oh Lord

I have been waiting for years.

- Beyond the Distant Door -

Behold the clouds that gather in the azure skies!
Come night, when they are replaced by starlight,
And the glow of day, has had its’ daily demise…
The fluffy white, shall give way to a darker sight:
Imagine each star is a flower upon a velvet field.
If I had the power, I would pick a star for you…
For you wear in your hair, its’ glory to thus yield:
Before our desires, to make dreams come true!

By the light of that star, I would take you away,
To the sands of the sea, where old gods do rise!
There, I would paint you images to forever stay,
In your mind’s eye: where true glory never dies.
But the sea ebbs and flows with the tidal forces,
Washing away all that lies upon these old sands.
All I could paint is as fleeting as are swift horses,
Which hasten away to race across distant lands.

Did I promise you eternity and say it would last?
It can, but not by these sands, and on this shore.
Sea and sky can seem infinite, and madly vast…
But cast away your halo and you will learn more,
Beyond the distant door!

I'm Going Far Away

I'm going to a faraway place she said.
where the river sparkles in the sun like diamonds.
travelling on it's journey to the ocean vast.
where stories unfold on the whispering wind.

Where the evanescence of the morning mist
leaves a ghostly shimmer of subtle energies
she can steal away between rocks and dunes
and draw pictures of matchstick men in the sand

Catch me catch you games with the tide
daisy chain fantasies hang from her eyes
cliff edge dance feeling the waters spray
gypsy heart sings a barefoot melody

I'm going to a far away place she said
where stories unfold on the whispering wind
as promises that slipped from your halo are forgotten

Feathers from an Angel's Wings

How delicate and fragile are these words she waxes poetic
Like feathers from the wings of angel trapped earthbound

They tell of love, longing, betrayal and loss
Words too beautiful to be spoken aloud as if they would burst in the air

I recognize the deep pain, feel the rawness of her emotions
Realizing that they come from one who has felt these arrows first hand and cannot escape their sting

At times I picture her face, tears softly flowing
As she opens up her heart, shares her quiet pain

Like this is the only way that she can find relief or solace
By transfering them to the page where they can be locked away in some bound volume

To someday be found by that special one, the man she deserves and awaits
Who will read these poems, see her inner beauty, rescue her from her suffering and solitude

Oh, were I that man, so worthy to ride in like a knight of old
Pulling her onto my steed, whisking her away to Camelot

Taking her to my chateau, wiping away her tears
Kissing her angelic lips and enfolding her in my arms

But sadly I am not that chevalier, destined only to pine and wait
Hoping to discover more of her fallen feathers, the closest I will ever get to heaven

Fire Flies

I.

100 million fire flies
opened in the glen,
see them all at once
head began to spin.

scatter graphic
erased my mind
knowing light
shadows in my spine.

II.

Her hand had slipped
from atop my knee
and rested
on my thigh
ambivalent sense
if I questioned it
too much
she would deny
doing it on purpose
and a moment
of sheer terror
at the excitement
of the thought
of it
would overwhelm me
into self-conscious nausea;
not noting it might lead
to her
leaning back
and accidently
glancing against me,
touching me knowingly
and inviting me
to touch her back
and the thought
of that rejection made me
avoid the entire business
by pretending to ignore it,
so she grabbed me outright
as if to say,
"Don't wait;
I want you
inside me now."

III. Standing outside
on the rooftop,
the music drifting out
through the window
we share a joint
and then sit
in the dark
overlooking
the downtown view
lights and traffic,
and no one seeing
us stoned and kissing,
and kissing and stoned
and all night long talking
as if we had nowhere to go
the rest of our lives.

- Winged Bliss -

In soaring, like an angel, on winged bliss,
I felt like dancing, across the very skies…
And for but the price of thy warmest kiss:
I would bring thee the sun as it doth rise!
No greater love could I bestow than this,
Nor nobler passion to between us realize.
Mayhap we could, to old Mars fly so far,
To paint hearts on that red planet’s sands!
Mayhap we could touch each distant star,
And visit on other worlds, ancient lands…
Bringing to the galaxy peace and not war.
Our only law being our love’s commands!

Fleeter, than promises made in the throes,
Of passion, would be our flight, ecstatic…
Across that void which only a god knows.
Swift our wings, our course never erratic!
To touch the flower that celestial grows…
And feel its’ currents, intense and electric.
Could we hold the eye of Jupiter in hands?
Nay, for what hand could grasp a world!
Could we touch Saturn’s rings and bands?
Aye, as to some paradise we are hurled…
Obedient to passion’s maddest demands,
Needing no ship, with sails ever unfurled!

Love is the vessel that bears us with fire…
Its’ fizzling fuel: the halo of our desire.

"You Once Loved"
http://blog.sevenponds.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/stone-art1-513x384.jpg
You once loved my bouquets
as radiant as the
twinkling heavenly stars,
they were pure and vibrant,
reflected your inner spirit.

You once loved my fingered sand
stories of unbridled passion,
furnace hearts, rhythms of
nurturing souls, all
reflected your own.

You once loved me who
promised devotion without
constraint, truthful words,
I was your equal partner, a
reflection of the best in you.

Yes, you once loved the
cherished moments we spent
picking starry flowers,
drawing sand script images,
making real commitments, which
fizzled like the wind when I lost you,
a reflection of endless pain.

Lost & Found Halo

Hurricanes contain such devine secrets
They don't come frequent
Unless it's hurricane season
Houses fly and millions die
Canvases of destruction painful to the eye
Sandy shores become sandy morgues
Upside down becomes the garden floors
The wind takes my halo at category five
But I'll find it again when I notice I'm alive
If I survived then it must have too
My halo followed the pattern of the wind that blew
