Poetry Contest

Write me something that I can see clearly in my head
- Let's keep it at 200 words or less
- Can be about anything at all, no subject limitations
- I think I'll keep it at 2 posts per person
- Give me something I can really visualize, good luck! :]

-Black metal breathing apparatus-

Saw it
Just for a moment, but it was there
Black and gleaming silver metal
Stalking after his shadow
Glaring at everyone

As though they had personally kicked his dog
More metal in his face than a bomb defusing robot
Mask of plastic and metallic fragments creeping up
Nearly reaching the bridge of his nose
Post apocalyptic video games had nothing on him

An urban cliche
Standing as we carried on
Unnoticed
Glaring just as hatefully at his own reflection
Ear buds blasting lyrical angst of an X generation
Without ever changing

Saw it
But just for a moment
Still unnoticed
He departed

A haze of misplaced anger
Black metal tunes, clicking metal
And the strangest face mask
I have ever seen

Petals

Petals petals
Everywhere.
They drink me in the paling light.
They scatter on the morning wind.
As they danced through the foggy night.
And as I look upon the tree
No longer do I see the majesty.
All I see is scarcity.
And the tragedy of the rigid sticks.

Petals...petals...everywhere.
As I slowly die.
Petals...petals...everywhere as they taunt me goodbye.

Can you see her stumble...
I can.
Little baby girl.
Her hair is dark, black as night,
But her skin is light as caramel.
Her eyes are wide, a muddy puddle-
Ever dreaming big.
She can crawl,
Just a tad,
On chubby legs and arms.
Reaching up, grabbing hold-
Her older brothers hand.
They look alike,
In their skin and eyes.
Brown for all to see.
His hair is soft and fair,
Hers a mass of sea.
No one would know,
The problems they face-
Coming to this world.
Laughing smiles
That open the skies,
To let the light shine in.
Can you see her stumble?
I can.
Can you see him lead.
I know.
Hand in hand,
I watch them grow.

Nature's Pity

Take a walk along the coast and watch the ocean
Acknowledge it's motion
The setting sun's rays are floating
Surrender your thoughts
The beauty witnessed here was more than I sought
We ought to start toward the shore before the storm is in route
I have a minute to escape the cursed city
I mustn't return
I'd rather stay at nature's pity
Here the streets aren't paved with envy
Suns up
Taking flight with the clouds
Appreciate the windbreaks and looking down at the towns
The kind of picture that you'd only see in paint
I do fantasize of where I want to be but can't
An invisible restraint
Hop on every stone
Cross and I'll wait
can you see the river bank?
The pink salmon are bait!
Up ahead
There's a big brown grizzly
We best to take cover
All at once it started drizzling
I rather be here
I hate to stay within the city
I don't like the hype
I'd rather stay at nature's pity

Still Caught Me

I hug a wall in the darkest alley way
I'm scared like hell
I couldn't tell which way to face
I looked to my left
I heard it coming from the right
I ran so fast and turned a corner sorta tight
And one bright light came up behind
I caught a glimpse
It had two wings
A bow and arrow made of steel
This wasn't my plan
I guess we fear things we don't understand
But still I just can't let it catch me
I'd be less of a man
And while I'm running there's an unexpected stress on my leg
And while I'm trying to see what's wrong
Something flew by my head
I looked for arrows but this thing was shooting plungers
It had to be Cupid
I should be careful where I wander
He must be pissed
I turned a corner and he shot but he missed
I thought he did but my leg had gotten hit
I didn't get away
Evading plungers all day
I don't know what to say
Now I'm stuck and got to pay

That used to be my hand,
its thumb pressed underneath
the bottom lip
with a cigarette flaring
between the fore and middle finger.
My other hand would clutch
the wine glass
as I sang sonnets to the night sky.

Nothing more than a cheap suit
and rooms of strangers
thinking I had something interesting to say,
well! The truth be told,
I had less than them.

I was a detuned piano
short of my own serenade,
but I tried my best.

Panama Judas, that first few lines really did the rest of the piece justice. Great imagery :]
