Forget
the fortified square of reason
with aid from spirit fermented
allow your feet to unseat you
and follow me through the flowers
Indeed
beyond the dirt
between the gateways of cosm

Pray to me
with your ecstasy

Outside of yourself
repaid in epiphany

Look to me
as protection from frenzy
a community for the outcast
safety to serenade the insanity
of chaos

Find me
in the genius
of music that should not
but must be made

I birthed
theatre

I am
an articulation
of excitement
that push pulls
creation
until its made

Then
I die

I birthed tragedy

Dance
like my world depends on it
and raise a toast to the felt
but unknown

In the gnossis
of lost self
I again am regained

( I of course am Bacchus)

Here is my second entry for this contest, my first having been that one about Prometheus. This one is about the dark god / goddess Erebus, about whom very little if anything was recorded.

- Erebus -

Lo! Hear now the tale I weave of that dark goddess,
Dreaded by mortals of old, yet whom I walked with…
Hand in hand, each of us wearing our blackest dress!
I sing of Erebus, whom some called a god of the Abyss.
Yet either gender could she assume, and often did thus:
Beautiful one moment, handsome the next, always fair…
For in her darkness was a certain light one could trust.
An honest light, and yet of it did men learn to beware!

I, whom once was called a queen of demons, so right,
And yet even I did not gaze too deeply into her eyes…
For the soul of Erebus was as terrible as it was bright!
In the darkness below even Hades, amidst fiery skies,
Therein was she supreme, and none could touch her…
Except for Nyx: and of their union much was wrought.
None seek her out simply to of trivial matters confer…
For Erebus is darkness itself, amidst hot flame caught.

On aged scrolls she penned arcane lore and I learned,
Secrets that even my Olympian enemies knew not of…
Taught from the thought of darkness, as souls burned!
Yet even in such teachings I discovered a deeper love.
For without passion, fire and darkness become weak…
And Erebus was a strong teacher, never too wavering.
Before her even gods could become frightened, meek.
But of her fearfully lovely visage many come savoring!

I met her as an equal,
My spirit, equally terrible.

'Hecate Or The Three Fates' by William Blake, 1795 - Pen and ink with watercolour.

"Images of Hecate in her trimorphic form were placed at crossroads."
      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hecate#Goddess_of_the_crossroads

< my goddess of the crossroads >

                      a rainy night
                      at the crossroads
                      pieces of a rainy night
                      down at the crossroads
                      a wet night
                      of wet gravel
                      and wet asphalt
                      down at the crossroads
                      down here looking
                      for a message
                      a sign
                      and the rain washing and
i went down to the crossroads
                      in the rain
                      and not everything
                      was washed clean
                      and me
                      in the road
                      me in the road
                      sitting in a wet mist
                      just sitting
                      waiting for the dawn
                      and you
                      just sitting here wishing
                      sitting here wishing
                      sitting down here
                      down at the crossroads
                      there's a smell to it
                      a smell to the rain
                      a smell of release
                      down here
                      down these roads at night
                      and headlights
                      down at the crossroads
                      headlights
                      and tires
                      and singing
                      my goddess of the crossroads
                      sings to me

She wears fallen leaves like a nightdress
Barely hiding her naked shame and the
four bullet holes
in her D-cup chest.
Bindweed curls around her casually propped up leg
in a sickening mortal caress
trying to drag her down through the soil
and eat the evidence.

Persephone, Persephone
poor girl,
died like a common whore
London precipitation clings to her
Tango streaked skin
her wedding ring is missing.

Traffic thunders by-
and more rain looks likely

Jealous but Beautiful

I am jealous but beautiful
I am the one who caused Medusa to be who she is
I am the one who sent her running asking for Athena’s help
I am beautiful
I am more beautiful than a rose
I am Aphrodite
I am the goddess of love and passion
Anyone more beautiful than me has to pay
Can't you see?
My beauty is dangerous like a succubus
I am the goddess of love and passion
I am also jealous but beautiful.
I get jealous when you call a woman more beautiful than me
I get jealous when you call a woman more passionate than me
I get jealous when you ignore me
I am dangerous
I am a person who you should not cross
I am Aphrodite
I am jealous but beautiful
