Christmas

How I loathe Christmas
I never get anything that's on my wishlist
Death, Knives
Or maybe happiness or a wife
That'd be nice
The days are cold
Away from school, I'm finally alone
Until my annoying family comes home
Then I realize I'll never be on my own
I hate Christmas
Everyone is happy but me
To everyone who loves it, lucky
For me, This Christmas
Like the last ones,
Will be sucky...

Happiness.
Joy.
Cheer.
You usually think of these on Christmas.
When really,
It's selfishness.
Conceded.
Ignorant.
Screw Scrooge,
Hell with snow,
It can burn for all I know.
Christmas music irritates me.
Lights blind me.
The cold chills me.
I'd rather be sitting at home,
In my own room.
With the music blaring.
That's the best gift anyone could give.

A Christmas Dream
88888888888888888888888888888888
A Christmas dream, is all I had.
A dream of love that brings my heart into well being.
He comes to me with a holiday kiss,
laying gifts of myrth at my feet.
The sun and moon he keeps hidden away in his love.
A Christma dream of love.

The christmas tree all decked out in blues, gold, red and green,
Standing in the room like a king,
on a mountain high
while the stars adore his crown.

The silent white snow falls from the heavens above,
turtle doves sang a song of love.

This is how I think christmas should be,
but in my life its not.

So I have to continue to write.
I love christmas for the birth of Jesus Christ,
but I hate christmas for what is not.

Very nice piece here, Eamonn. The dark underbelly.
The sudden change of tense in stanzas 4 and 5 is unsettling. Even if you intended it as a poetic device, I think it takes away more than it confers on this otherwise really good piece. Peace.  R.

Thanks, Red T-bird

would you believe i looked over it before i posted it to make sure the tense had continuity, totally missed it.
I will sort that now.

First

I don't remember my first Christmas
but there are pictures
of smiling people,
like my mum.

She took off a few months later,
dad threw my gift from her away
and kept his.

Christmas lights and candy canes
They decorate your windowpane
Tiny cherubs and golden glass
I could kick it in the ass.

Pleasant words and ringing bells
Cheerful words within the knells
A 'Merry Christmas' for one and all
I could gag and stuff you all.

All the cheer and merry laughter
I just want to bring disaster
Burn the Christmas trees tacky lights
String them up and watch it done right
Presents of such 'generous giving'
Smash them all and return them to the living.

Turkey stuffed next to the yam
I'll palm it with your holiday jam
Stocking stuffers filled with treats
Feed them to the fireplace.

Christmas glee and Christmas joy?
Appreciation plus the toys?
I'll shove them down the carolers throats
Laugh as I just watch them choke.

Twas the Night before Christmas
And all through the house
Everything died
Including the mouse.

Keep The Receipts

Chris Kringle makes me cringe
Jesus, I just roll my eyes
Sad how we have to live a lie to be kind to each other
and only allow that to happen once a year

Ringing bells tell me tales
of lost homes and abused spouses
of children having to face the cold
Because the world doesn't quite understand itself yet
Single mothers make the best holiday smile they can muster

We've given our hearts away
To things, to money, to sales,
to brightly colored adverts telling us our lives are incomplete
We've given our souls away
to the things that everybody wants this holiday season
as if our lives depended on it

Take it back
Make it matter
Show some love and some kindness to those worse off
and see where the heart and mind should truly be
Impress your loved ones with gifts of the spirit
Because sales end,
Things break,
and all the rest you can't take with you
Keep your cash and give your time

No, I won't be joining them
I'm freeing myself of this garbage
and I have somewhere better to be
Because the only things on my wishlist
Are the bed, You, and Me
For all the rest,
the rush and madness,
I hope you've kept the receipts

All I want of Christmas is you
Don't you believe it's true?
I think about you all the time
My soul is sour like a lime
I need you in my life
But love is sharp like a knife

The night before Christmas.

Kicks those
stiletto
heels
under the
couch.

She
drops that
red
thong
to her
ankle.

Lifts
her
red-velvet
white-rimmed
santa
mini-skirt
up above
her
shapely
hips.

She says,
Happy holidays, baby.

Oh how I love
my Missy Christmas
we kiss under
the mistletoe
and awake
under the
tree.
