Dark Dust
She hung with the smell of dry earth,
twisted in amongst forms of herself,
scratching black in the darkness
with long bloodied finger nails.
she mouthed each cry to give it form
but only found the guttural sounds of mourners.
The young couple wanted to remodel the cottage,
make it more open plan, party friendly.
The architect said the wall wasn’t structural,
so they played builder.
He should have stopped when he found the first cavity,
the lock of hair wrapped around three small bones.
With every thud of the lump hammer
her body snapped back into position.
Splintered light seemed to paste flesh
over wasted muscle and decayed sinews.
The couple could only see the macabre,
they missed the escaping spiral of dust
that seemed to move slowly in the sunlight.
Angry and cold, absorbing
any source of heat to feed the blackness
that seethed inside her.
She entered her old room
but everything had changed,
lemon drapes and fresh pale wood
decorated with a woodland mural.
Her face contorted into a hideous grin,
She had always wanted a baby.

Trick
White sheets, raining sweets, finger-holes for eyes.
Little steps, out with pets, door knocked surprise.
Rain mac's, candle wax, fright night parade.
Goblin hobb, graves to rob, costumes ready made.
Light dims, sharp-teeth grins, Pumpkin shadow stare
Darkness falls, doorbell calls, press me if you dare.
Open door, six or more, hands outstretched for treats.
Behind my back, in a sack, a home made head and sweets.

Embracing a Digital Age of Connection
In the land of selfies, tweets, and endless likes,
A battlefield of vanity, where truth often strikes.
Social media, a web of deceit, conspiracy's fertile ground,
Where battles are fought, and real connections are rarely found.
Facebook, the grand illusion, where everyone's life's a dream,
But behind those perfect posts, it's not always what it seems.
A war of comparison, where happiness is a lie,
As we scroll through fake perfection, and authentic moments pass us by.
Instagram, where filters reign, and reality's obscured,
A conspiracy of beauty, where self-worth is often blurred.
We paint our lives in pixels, while our true selves disappear,
In a constant quest for likes, we lose what we hold dear.
Twitter, where thoughts take flight, in a war of words we wage,
Conspiracies and falsehoods spread like wildfire on this stage.
140 characters to tell the world what we think,
But the truth gets lost in hashtags, and reason's on the brink.
TikTok, a viral battleground, where trends dictate the show,
A conspiracy of conformity, where creativity can't grow.
Short-lived fame and dances, a world of shallow fame,
In the battle for attention, authenticity takes the blame.
YouTube, a video empire, where influencers rise,
A war of subscribers, where the truth often dies.
Content masked in sponsorship, authenticity is rare,
As we chase after trends, we forget who we are and where.
Snapchat, where images vanish, like secrets in the night,
But behind those fleeting moments, is a never-ending fight.
A war for attention spans, where memories fade away,
In the realm of disappearing snaps, the truth can't stay.
In the realm of social media, where wars of likes and shares persist,
Conspiracies of disconnect, authenticity dismissed.
Let us remember who we are, and seek real connections,
For, in the midst of digital chaos, we can find our own reflections.
Amidst the social media's chaos and noise,
Seek truth and real connections, and find authentic joys.
Let's break free from the conspiracy's tight grip,
And rediscover the beauty of life, one genuine, heartfelt trip.

Splatterpunk of Dark's Embryo
Welcome to my hysteria
ratcheting up my decaying cock
a splatterpunk of dark's embryo
from beneath the satin sheets
neither fantasy nor memories
where the pharmacist creeps
connecting dots of insanity
within my head's fondue
held on by a string
of a twilight marionette
lip-syncing from the labia majora
a splatterpunk of dark's embryo

Perfect Vision
samhain
all souls’ day
time of
transition
between summer
and winter
he was
perfect
except for
the eyes
costumed
for the party
halloween
día de muertos
time of year
when
only thin veil
divides
living
from dead
he was
perfect
except for
the eyes
smooth cheeks
kissable lips
face colored like
marci gras
green pink
black gold
perfect
except for
the eyes
i could see
him
perfectly
by necessity
compelled
destined
to share
his view
of the world
try
as i might
unable to
visualize
the world
through his eyes
so
i gouged
them out
first with
scissors
too
imprecise
then
kitchen knife
still not
quite
finally
razor-sharp
carpet
blade
surprisingly
little blood
as
knife tip
nipped
fingertip
his eyes
now
in pieces
on the floor
(left socket slightly
larger than right)
no time
to correct
must cover-up
the flaw
blue
sunglasses
on
counter
inspire
solution
glue gun
plugged in
heated
to scalding
molten
lava
bonds glasses
to face
voila!
perfection!
his face
placed
over
mine
fit like
a glove
now
i see
autumn light
perfectly
through
his eyes

Robert, thank you for the honor in this comp. I'm glad the piece all the criteria, and that it made folks laugh most of all.
Hope everyone is having a great season.
