Fist Up in the Air
Spitting the truth for some must feel like fire
The burn will their turn their stomachs into knots
It will churn and stir because it’s hard to hear
Especially when standing up for the have nots
Speaking hard facts might fall on some deaf ears
They don’t like to face reality outside the bubble
But if you take a knee or put a fist up in the air
Then suddenly they think you’re looking for trouble
Along with that fist I also like to give a middle finger
So the emotion lingers a little deeper in their minds
We’ve got to pay attention to the real issues here
And for heavens sake, learn how learn to read the signs
These are the days when we keep pushing for change
Wake up and discover the true source of all this anxiety
When the one percent control the other ninety-eight
Something is wrong with the foundations of society

The Unbreakable Louis Z
It was after the ordeal of Super Man 's last flight
That Louis had survived the dog fight
and the five hundred ninety four shells shot into the B-24
When a month later he took on another mission
This time on the Green Hornet
But the old plane crashed into the waters of the Pacific
And the young bombardier along with two others survived
Then after forty-seven days of being lost at sea
They were captured by the enemy
That was in May of ‘43
Prisoners of war are subjected to the horrors
Conjured up in the minds of evil men obsessed with punishment
Breaking and destroying spirits
Until the captives wish for a swift and quick death
Louis was beaten and brutally tortured
An endless affliction with no end in sight
Louis made a deal with God
And it gave him something to live for
Even though there was something that infuriated his captors
There was non-stop and relentless abuse
But Louis endured
It was after the war when Louis came home
That he eventually healed
Found the love of life
Found his faith
Kept his promise
But most powerful of all
Louis was able to forgive those who had tormented him
He lived to the age of 97
A testament of overcoming evil
His is a story of endurance
Of survival
Of forgiveness
And unbreakable human spirit

Re-Re
Sometimes the body and mind may need to shut down
In order for the psyche to recover and regenerate
And this phenomenon of being restored and refreshed
Is a much needed physiological process to rejuvenate
This may resonate with those who have reinvented themselves
Those who found their purpose, their reason and resolve
This resurgence is a secondary wave of revival and revisal
A renaissance of the spirit that allows them to evolve
It’s a real revolutionary step replete in intellectual renovation
A resurgence of life filled with promise and prominence
Reigniting passionate fires through remarkable inspiration
That reestablishes a true sense of confidence and cognizance
Rebirth only comes to those who seek truth and enlightenment
When taking stock and reviewing their lives in retrospection
And once refocused on goals with reassurance in their souls
They rise from the ashes like a phoenix in glorious resurrection

MUTED
Better do the right thing before your music gets stopped
Or you may go out like Raheem after they called the cops
On second thought, don't put down your radio
Continue to spread the news about this Truman show
Let 'em know that this show's rarely genuine
Many things that we see have political spins
Pens of poets jot it while artists paint the pics
Thee that controls the strokes is whom picks
Some use Bics to depict the tricks of the trade
Conveying that the game's fix and we're all being played
Dismayed by the ways of man in these days and times
Displayed everyday are signs of more scores of mimes

No Filter
When you were little
You’d express yourself freely without caring what anyone thought
You spoke from the heart and how you truly felt
But as you grew older
You discovered your filters
And how they are imposed on by society
Now, some, worry about what others think
But along with growing a conscience
And understanding the need for decorum
Some of us have sank into an introverted state of mind
I for one, I’m guilty of this
And somehow imprisoned myself in a pit of loneliness and despair
Composing, on the other hand
Enables part of us
A child like enthusiasm to be open and free
To be creative
To use our imagination
To explore worlds we never thought we could do before
And if writing
With no filter
Allows us to be free
Imagine how much happiness we could attain
When being respectful and honest

Worth fighting for
15) "The truth is everyone is going to hurt you. You just got to find the ones worth suffering for."
- Bob Marley
How can you set the limit?
Your heart, its fragility was born to leap from the car park summit
Relationships they start off well but, in the end, they make you grimace
The lift its raises, the ties they break, and then you plummet
Not calculations on a spreadsheet, but finger burning bliss
When lovers turn to friends or worse
And ignominy is the greatest curse
When all the tears have dried
Trusts question marks can’t be reversed
Hope against hope for the sunny side
Optimistic seed were strewn
failed to be enchanted, blessed by the new moon
sufferance to bite your tongue and still be tied
Disappointment and deflation came
You always paid with golden coin
But exchanged lead in the end game
Steps that walked away, the echoes of forlorn
But tomorrow may see a bright new dawn
For torture brings such delightful pain

The Power of Knowledge
A bullet is loud
But the voices of many can be deafening
A gunshot to the head didn’t stop her
When she was just seeking an education
And the men with hatred in their heart
Awakened a hero’s noble vocation
Now she preaches and teaches empowerment
She’s against illiteracy, poverty and terrorism
Hopeful that the future will be peaceful and bright
It’s a struggle as many still face so much racism
She stands up and fights for women’s rights
On the teachings and foundations of many greats
Bringing light to young girls all around the world
A catalyst for change for those in dire straits
She’s the youngest Nobel Peace Prize Laureate
Wise beyond her years with a clear goal
Some may say not all heroes wear capes
But Malala with her call surely fits the role

Prompt # 30
Homage To Theodor
Teodoro McGrew
sat alone consuming
purple yak vindaloo
mid the din
of other animated eaters
another Saturday evening
at posh Chez Ballyhoo
Suzy Swansong
Teo’s perky server
asks “any desert…
or perhaps digestif?”
yes please
choochooberries
In dark chocolate slipper
with zingtingle sauce
topped with whipped cream
Teo’s hunger
satisfied, sighs,
claps his hands
to summon the bill
Suzy with flourish,
smiling complies
after paying the check,
with fifty fiddle tip
Teo sings, thank you
with glint in his eyes
says, “listen here, Suzy
there’s this Red Apple Pieman’s Ball
at Tam o' Shanter Hall
beginning at seven tomorrow
I’d be honored
If you’d accompany me
pray, does that interest you at all?”
“yes, I love to dance Teodoro!
and my cachoommate
I think, has a dress I can borrow
Enraptured
by her cachoo door she waits
arrayed in flowing
golden delicious gown
paired with crisp fuji vest
a la mode scarf accentuates
Teo rolls up
In pippin green limousine
the conveyance of choice
for one who lives to be seen
wearing black tuxedo, mcintosh tie,
with granny smith spats
he ascends spiral staircase
to collect his date
greets , kisses the hand
of her shy cachoomate
then off they go
to their first but not last dance
further details or clues
of their lives are unknown
suffice it to say
Mr.Teodoro McGrew
never again consumed
purple yak vindaloo, alone

At The Edge
At the cusp of dense thicket
you hear it, you listen close
a screeching tiny throat
brown feathered like everything
that hides within
As so, its voice was never sorry
it wanted to find you in earshot
and you needed that wonder
to know your own.
Under where the sky disapears
upon the fringe of stillest life
whose voice never recedes
or halts its repetition
Everything becomes clear
resounding in wild abandon,
You were meant to hear your own story
at the edge of the boundless.

Congratulations, NaPoets! Great work all around. Team NaPo is knee-deep in double checks and will award the trophy asap! In our double-checks, we have discovered several OLD entries. Please note that this comp, as the challenge, is for new writes only. The prompts themselves were just developed April 1st; therefore, any entry written prior to that date is disqualified from this comp.
You have one day to remove any old entries you have submitted or risk disqualification from this competition. We would hate to see that happen to anyone who has worked so hard this month; however, it's not fair to allow old posts to stand against those who have worked so hard this month by writing new entries.
Thank you for your compliance.

Fists and Pacifists
Fists can never break down the spirit of a pacifist
It’s something a bully will never have or understand
And this unexplainable resolve only exists
In the heart of those who get up and take a stand
And those who torment tend to get even more pissed
Because their punches carry no message or power
They may land their blows but the bigger twist
Is that when bullies are alone they’re scared and cower
But then the pacifists grows an even bigger list
Of allies who have been hurt as well to stand with them
Then supporters for their cause will come and assist
Rousing those who’ve suffered and the others condemn
Eventually bullies are ousted, rejected and dismissed
For in time Karma will correct the errors of their ways
And the pacifists may rise like a beacon of light amidst
All the darkness that this world has been lost in a haze

Communication Breakdown
When the few and elite cannot reach an accord
The many and the poor suffer for their decisions
So the world is thrown into chaos and discord
Thus creating more devastation and divisions
Then something scary happens to the human soul
When truth becomes the first casualty of war
Men then resort to savage instincts and cruel roles
Losing morality and humanity at the very core
In the meantime those who made those choices
Continue to talk after communication broke down
But they keep ignoring the people and their voices
While thousands lay dead or are dying on the ground
War seems like a failed conversation of the elite
Never really leaving room for adaptation or adjustment
It’s been playing throughout history constantly on repeat
As if their greed takes over clouding their judgement
Meanwhile thousands and thousand lay dead on the street
