Poetry Contest Description
Write a poem about your immediate surroundings
Write a poem about your immediate surroundings whether they be urban, country, city-scape, the patterns on the wallpaper... fields or other.
I want to hear how your outside surroundings influence your inner life, in whatever form and feeling they may appear. I want this passionate and brief.
You have three weeks.
Any form (I love visuals but not a must)
Be creative. Be imaginative.
2 poems per person (one oldie allowed)
(This is my first comp. so there is no doubt I will mess this up somehow....I will also critique everything and I will vote the winner)

grateful
I live in a small cow town not much to it besides the cheese company
mostly we have dairies and farmland to grow feed for the cows
I live on a ten-acre ranch used to grow winter oats for the dairies
it's green here with almond orchards and eucalyptus across the way
mostly blue open sky and land
a flowering garden in the yard where I meditate
I am deeply connected to this plot of Earth
a schizophrenic I am often found pacing the back forty
talking openly to the spirits unseen or heard by most of the world
I am connected to the sky, the trees around me, and the Earth herself
when I feel boxed in or cornered by a noxious spirit
I call to my tree guardians they help hold up the sky above me giving me peace
when things press in and I think I will suffocate
they rain blossoms down on me and make me forget I'm anxious
I couldn't live anywhere else without conflict
I am grateful

Living letters
Dearest,
Sublingual pink
And concrete warmth
But hands of others reaching
To fondle the fuzzy edges of my off white throw
And to corrupt
The pillow that holds my head
A bothersome fellowship
Shouting God
And hubris
The aromatic wax
That hangs about my head
And clings to my skin
Florals and mulberry
Agitation
But also peace
That I now possess the ability
To both absorb
And make amends
With Love,
Amend

sometimes you get mistaken for yourself
Slurps of shingle wash memories mouth
Upon the sea path where steps are worn
Torn, climb the ocean tower as a stutter,
One step up, ten down, one up.
I have been somebody else all my life.
Sail Latin latitude for bedtime stories
Oratio Fatimae told by aged popstars on
Dead Sea Scrolled postcards.
Prey of prayers rattle
The eternal letter box.
I have been somebody else all my life.
O’er fields that never take
The same shape twice,
Police helicopter cuts the coast
As sun’s clenched teeth bare
The scantily clad sycamore ~
Finger relic fresco on this wall.
These hands, which type, are not my own
On my feet are the shoes of my dead fathers
We walk alone, together.

Stellar Conjunction
As we looked and thoughts upwards drift.
Expanding in unarranged elasticity
and the cosmos answered back.
The planetarium behind our doubts
astrology a map written on the empty hand.
Forces twinkle, the light still waits to land
Times bend of relativity, our hearts so seek
some conjunction beyond our reach.
The lamp, for all hopes benefits
soothsayer, what is its meaning?
has the day foretold, now come.
Singing in the heavens , quiet overtures
a hierarchy of good tidings.
The orbits of expectations thrown like seeds
we see a birth sign, too tomorrows needs

That is worth its weight in gold alone, and much more valuable than a trophy to me!
Thank you, that is very kind, but it could never be comparable to the CCC critiques...I will go on feeling and hopefully explain what moves me the most. I do need to exercise my critique brain-muscle.
Thank you Slipalong also for your beautiful entry.

alone with the white walls and the lights humming
whatmi meant to do with so much absent noise? holding on to focus with the skinless whites of my eyes
drying out like potpourii in this echo chamber i conned my way to belonging
if i seep into the air like a toxic spore
forgive me my attendance, i am trying not to be here : sorry i cannot pay attention i am torn apart at the cerebellum like fruit thrown on the floor i am somewhere in the corners going bad
remember me by my stench
water trickles and wall clicks
settling down for the time being and if i look too long the world is bright
there is a sag in the middle of my mouth
the air is paused i am made to sit
i cannotdothis waiting

Forever I Roam
I was eighteen and I left home
ambitious or rather, all roads will lead to Rome,
only if I worked my ass off right to the bone
Life’s always serene and fair
I start off as a stage actor with a flair
Having my strings pulled, there’s never despair
through peaks and troughs, I journey through the valleys
throughout the days and night, the smell of fresh air, had my soul in harmony
sunshines from the East, love greets me with a subtle ease
from dawn to dusk, the lessons I learnt from the West were the best
as I moved from one continent to another, I embrace everything that were better
Bitter ales Courage Best, greasy French fries with gravy and cheese
Never mind the rolling hills of Cotwolds,
or the fresh streams flowing down the Thames,
the illusion was always the beauty of whatever was greener on the other side of St James!
Then came the land, way above the 49th parallel,
snowed capped and barren that’s unlike hell
Yet it the heat came from the hut, sat over the frozen ice,
grilling the fleshy rainbow trout and pepper bells
then comes July, the summer takes over the long arduous winter
I see everything that has become greener, brighter and my heart a little lighter
three decades past and comes the time,
I needed to circle back home,
gone were the illusions of everything’s greener,
except my desire to forever roam!

A BEAUTIFUL SUNSET
If you could would you be truly able to come with me as we enjoy the fresh air, that filters through our lungs like a sweet summer breeze, that softly caressing our skin as the winds whisper tenderly in our ears. Sending us subliminal messages that only we two can hear. If you could would you come with me as we float out to sea feeling, the ripples beneath the surface of our feet as each soft wave slowly guide us on a subconscious journey. As we watch the golden sunrise off into the distance, as we watch the birds in flight dancing upon the very winds of time. If you could would you be willing to come with me to just relax your mind, and leave your thoughts behind of the hustle and bustle of the world with its systematic and theology form of sight and sound. For just one silent moment of solitude as we free our subconsciousness, and take in all this beauty of life's nature as we together drift away within this sanctuary of our peace. As we evolve and transcend mentally and emotionally even spiritually, as we elevate as we pass by the mountains that seems to reach, there highest peak as though reaching towards the skies. For would you trust me if you could travel, through the deepness of your mind and remember when was the last time. When you felt the most alive and you stepped into the depth of time, as you looked up at the skies and vision thyself that you were a bird free in mid flight. Looking down below watching the boats slowly drifting off to sea over a calm ocean breeze.
