Sermon of Reason

The sand of our lives
A wrinkly grit in time
Slipping away like an untethered clothesline
I don't know about you
But I feel chance in the air
& yearning will be mine!
Release the cinch,the taut grasp
Let the tension cease
Allow peace,to stream and flow
Let gallop & run fast
Without pause or control...
Have me lead you
For I don not follow like blind cattle
Can't brave the deep?Well,
Paddle in a pond then
Because I am not the one who's shallow...
A heart,mind & soul
Within me are stowed,
In this husk called a body?
Is not hollow...
If you are lost
Come with me,
Cause I only lead
I don't follow
The time of our lives
Running out of oxygen clothesline,
I can't speak for you
But opportunity is here & the bounty will be mine
For I'm all for living
& having good times....
Thus that's what makes being alive so divine.

I Dont Want To

I don't want
to write
I need
to write
when i watch
commonsense
slowly dying
when I watch
Naïve
group hug
all better now
people
when I watch
independent
documentaries
where the evidence
of what is said
is easily found
so I sow
the seeds
within the words
that I write
and maybe
just maybe
the ones
who have yet to breath
will have a future
a chance
to live

Write From the Heart

Write free or die without the presence of mind,
The present is yours and so you have to take it,
Our words are worlds in which yours and mine
Will show the future how each of us made it.
Pen your deepest thoughts and profound emotions,
Because writing is what make us human beings,
Show your love and sadness in lyrical explosions
So new generations will see writing as freeing.
Compose poems and prose to pour your passion,
So that after you’re gone you may continue to exist,
Comprise in any form or style in your own fashion
And if anyone or anything tries to oppress you, resist!
Always try to find your inspiration and drive,
Leave your mark on the world, distinct and unique
You are the historian of your story so thrive,
Find your strength so never be afraid to speak.
Write free and honestly, be true to yourself,
Never give up the fight,
Do it right from the heart or you may die,
But damn it write.

Rival

I had been born to paint & draw,
And later on, to write the part.
My first poetic spill was raw,
As tears fell from a broken heart.

I didn’t think I’d write again,
Expose my deeper self unseen.
And do it from a bleeding pen,
What did I know at age fourteen.

I kept to paint & pastel dreams,
My darker side hid quietly.
But innocence, not all it seems,
 Will cause a rival’s irony.

It’s like the heart in ways expressed,
This poet writes what she will write.
It’s what it is, there is no rest,
In light of day thru’ dark of night.

Thirty-one hours left till this competition closes.  Still plenty of time if anyone still plans to enter, and thank you.

Write free and Then

You die without
a spoken word

The words
that you expressed
in all the verse
you wrote

and knew as truth
your truth
will be your
testimony
of who you were

will make
all the difference
in what you give

of yourself
your life
to the world
any part of it

And as one poet
don’t think you
won’t have made
the difference

even to just
one person
that is a poet too

who will be
inspired to reach
for the stars
that you
wrote about

By picking up
the baton
you left behind

hoping that
one person
like you
would carry it
for others

as your message
continues forward
beyond the dust
and ash
as written
and free.
