“And the Sea Said There Were No Bounds”

So I took it for its word, and
found truths as old as
the gnarled shells, spat
upon the sands by waves.

I became fluid on shores, speckled
with popplestones, those sentinels
to tides and
hearts of mariners, long gone.

I melted in offshore winds, releasing
my soul, to endless miles of dunes, grasses
rooted and fixed.

I reached the end of the Earth, and
marveled at how simply alone I was, yet
filled with expectation
waiting on the Lord, where
I no longer needed my body.

Yes, the Sea said there were no bounds—
and it was right.

More Than a Drop In the Ocean

When the water is clear and still like a mirror
I can see you on the surface of the river
Floating away and leaving your troubles
Behind. As you break through the bubbles
On the surface I am fully mesmerized, not
By your ample, wet flesh but by what caught
My attention from that first day, your heart
In its imperfect beauty. I love when you dart
Out in the rain because you are so carelessly
Beautiful inside and out. You are so fearlessly
Chaotic but you bring calmness to everyone
And everywhere around like you are the sun.
Like the gentle ocean waves you are bringing
Peace to my soul and mind. You are clinging
To that reflection because it is “perfection”
To you but it is only an artificial connection
To yourself and who you keep thinking you
Should be instead of becoming a new
Person overnight, embracing life’s changes.
You and the water are making exchanges.

Liquid sunset

i
As one rare extract in passion rhyme
Spells our testament soul to entwine,

ii
Horizon with dawning shadow anoint
Inside ray to a coquet attraction point
Touch as conceived, the choir renown
Harken of scripture flame born sound,

iii
In walking sea
Save never leaving shore uncloak
While we utter
Ever in the liquid sunset unspoke.

ON THE GREAT WAVE

I rode
The Great Wave
With its many grabbing hands
All the way into the ground
The other day

Pummeled into submission
By the goddess of sand
(who held me desperately for a time)
I was pulled back
Into the watery maw

Blind now I go
With the gathering currents
Joining fingers with the rest
Of her adherents
Ready to embrace again

The salt in my body
is the sea in me,
Eroding,
Receding,
Exploding and pleading

The Seas

We are agreed, the seas and me.
As the human, I have the responsibility
to know the oceans somber motion
Be sensitive to their every emotion

They cannot be tamed so I must
come and go at their pleasure
to earn their respect, their trust

no bounds

a quatern

and sea said there were no bounds to the wet
that stretched across the shoulders of her calm.
her raininess was meant to be a balm
for circumstance that caused lost souls to fret

on sinking sand.  i smelled my own near death
and sea said there were no bounds to the sands
of time; no matter where on earth i land
no sinking sand would rob me of my breath.

yet unconsoled, i dreamed of pregnant skies
and galaxies i hoped one day to find
and sea said there were no bounds to the winds
born deep within her womb, on which to fly

from shadowy purviews where spirits cloy.
wet, sinking sands and winds that knew no bounds
would usher me beyond where cares confound
and sea said there were no bounds to such joy.
