Poetry Contest Description
A wordplay exercise, taking a long word and scrambling it into many words
This activity is a Scramblegram (Idea developed by Larissa Szporluk)
Here we take a long word and break it down into a list of smaller words out of the same letters, thus creating a pool of assonance and consonance. Part of the fun challenge is to scramble into the longest words possible.
Ex:
Pilgrimage ( p l g r m g / i i a e )
magpie, mage, ram, lime, grime, rager, mirage, pie, rag, gale, germ, prime, pill [doubling letter use is okay].... etc
A: Aurantiaceous (pertaining to orange or orange trees)
or
B: Bacchanalianism (practice of drunken merrymaking)
Instructions:
1. Pick one of the words above, A or B
2. Scramble your choice into a word list (suggested: 100+ words)
3. Draft your first poem- pick the words you like from your list, make
lines with them, play with line placement
4. Find an interesting thread (concept)- something that appeals to you.
It can be directly related to the word you picked or take you to a
completely different place, your decision!
5. Rework and finalize with your concept
In answer to questions:
6. Other words permitted
7. No minimum length but recommended to use as much as possible to showcase
8. You can bold or italize your words if you so wish, not required
I don't want to see the first poem that emerges from your collected words. I want to see the evolution into a fleshed out whole.
1 month to complete- 1 entry per poet- any style/length poem- no collabs
--- Have fun and good luck!
((Inbox me if you need clarification or support))

Draft 1:
A roused rain creates coronas-
the kingdom of many rulers
stir in a succession,
the rowing of the fruits
do not concern me
as the blossoms oust
their delight, a rose may be
love and that color
but the moment before the orange
is a tabula rasa,
draw the lines in it,
shake it, do over-
this rewind the window
of the car is rolled wide enough,
wide as a note, as we face
the deluge all we see-
the green top stain
the red spread of clay, blood
smells of iron, blossoms
smell of a soused suncanoe
soaring through the opening
as the rust star pricks unease,
and an incised burn stuns us,
an intent to unseat and unlock
our steel nation as the new court.

Ars Poetica: Orchard
A roused rain creates
coronas- the kingdom
of many rulers stir
in a succession,
the rowing of the fruits
do not concern me
as the blossoms oust
their stance-
the citron
acuteness
of a riot, a sheen on air.
A rose may be
love and that color, ah,
but the moment before the orange
comes to being,
a tabula rasa
let me etch
an origin: the car
window is rolled down wide
as a note, beyond
my shield a distorted orchard-
a deluge parked each pause,
each joint, each delta, each
green stained
noun meeting for the first time.
A sorted vitalization
of clay, blood
smells of iron, blossoms
smell of a soused
civilization erected
as a trojan, the rust
perfume ornates unease,
its incised star burn
stuns us, an intent
to unseat and utilize the steel
nation- I have
recanted all other senses.
A secret: they’re still there
and I am a circuit routine
as old as the monad
of an ars poetica.

Well, it's tax season so finding the time is a little tougher. I hate it whenever I miss a comp that I would have enjoyed!
Ruh row! I smell accountant! Here's the link:

Glad you think so Kumar, ever since I found this way of playing with words- something i use often as it opens up a whole self-list I would ordinarily not select from.
Ahavati- looking forward to seeing your mash up. *excited shimmy*

Recieved questions I would like to answer here so everyone knows as well:
1. Poem doesn’t have to be limited to only words from list. Only make sure your scrambles are featured heavily throughout.
2. No need to share your first draft- mine here is only to show progress and be an example.
Happy scrambling! :)

Bacchanalianism - Baal
Hail Baal as sin, as cash.
Basic Bacchanalians claim basilican alibis.
Lain chains banish ashcan annals.
Clannish cannibals’ inns nab cash as chins lash cannabis.
Baal can nail a sin as banal as a cabin basin.
Cain has slain Baal, bash his shin, ban his ash.
Cain is cash slab, is Milan chic.
Bacchanalians scan slain Baal, hail Cain as lich.
Cain bins basilican Bacchanalians, claims ash chains, is slim sin.
