Recluse
I remember the knock on the door,
But never really seeing his face,
I remember hearing him introducing himself,
As I stood out of sight by the staircase.
He said he was a registered sex offender,
And by law he had to make it known,
He told my parents about his time served,
He had just moved next door to our home.
My bedroom window looked in his backyard,
Sometimes I could see him working in the garage,
Putting together furniture and other things,
Along with paintings that looked like a collage.
But it was one afternoon when I came home early,
From my bedroom window I saw something odd,
He sat on one of his pieces there, weeping,
Talking to himself, as he would rock and nod.
I watched him through binoculars for nearly an hour,
The old man for a year now had been a recluse,
That afternoon he stood up wiping away his tears,
As he walked into the garage carrying a noose.
The next day there was a note,
Left at my door step with my name,
“You watched me, as I watched you,
But never ever play this game”.

This is truly a sad, frightening work. Extremely well written, unexpected, and creative. Excellent treatment of the subject matter!

Far-a-way
Closer and closer, people are coming to enter my eyes
like a forgotten love, that I wasn’t waiting for.
There was a huge mobile phone,
people were dancing, taking selfish pics
and then looking at their phones, growing gray bones.
The music could be Ramones but my cheap binoculars
had no sound on, like a heart without its beats
I was witnessing the end of a selfish “is”
while everybody was getting gray eating cheese.
Suddenly mud was dripping from the ceiling
they all got mad, like tripping was healing.
No more pictures, they all became one with what was going on
by rubbing their bodies towards the screen of the huge mobile phone.
I wonder, what if people were meant to be blind
and just some of us would be able to see?
How selfish would you be, if you had no self for someone to see?
I was burning, my cigarette was under my eyes
the smoke was graying all my horizon like rotten lies,
the lights went off, I’m blind again
an envelope enters from the door of my darker desires,
I can now read, even if letters seem clouds:
“There is no -close- and no -faraway-“
