Sky: The View From Here

They look to me,
a constant
believing I am a gateway
to paradise,
that I hold answers;
a responsibility
for the tumultuous destruction
of every second.

They don't realize night
affords me the need to shield my eyes
to the atrocities I am forced to witness
in the span of a single day

The abscess of humans
toying with the natural order
- a chemistry of violence and profit
the stink of disposable products
choking out the fresh flowers

And yet, they study weather like a map
as if it can be controlled
predicted,
instead of themselves.

I am just the layer,
a dirty filter
it all must pass through.

In My Heart

You are the sky
In my heart,
Like an epiphany right before my very eyes,
A paradise longed and found,
Destined and bound to share that joy,
That happiness
In the only way that I know how...

You are the light
In my heart,
The enlightenment that brightens my day,
That ray of sunshine in my life,
Enriching and inspiring to new heights,
The motivation
That moves me in the right direction…

You are the love,
In my heart,
That fuels me with excitement and energy,
A drive that is always steady,
Filled with excitement and curiosity,
An enthusiasm
That propels me with hope and positivity...

You are the fire
In my heart,
That burns profoundly at the core of me,
It’s a lovely sensation,
That stirs with the greatest of ease,
A passion
That gives me peace and serenity…

And so in the mirror,
I look myself in the eye,
Praying that above it all I’ll rise,
Because everything else is just weather,
But it makes me want to be better,
With open skies,
The possibilities are endless,
For in my heart,
I am.

Civility

You were the constant

In that equation

Now you are the x

That seeks to question

The end of our wondrous affair

Remember the day

Remember the occasion

You struggled with guilt

Then forgot to mention

The solemn promise between you and I

‘You are the sky...

‘Everything else is just weather.’

You said. And I swore

Then to never falter

In loving you purely,

No matter the weather

‘You are the sky...

‘Everything else is just weather’

I repeated after you,

And in that moment

I was yours

And in that moment

I thought you were mine

Come rain,

Come sunshine

But how could I have known

That the rain

Would come with thunder

And how could I have known

That the sunshine

Would irrevocably tear asunder

My soul, my face, my youthful heart

Well, I suspect, unlike me

You always knew

The sky is up there

Every night

Coldhearted like you

Promising the moon

Promising the star,

‘You are my sky...

‘Everything else is just weather’

Lonely Toast

Girl, you are the sky, come through,
you should know there is nothing I
need to do here if you’re not here,
that’s why all I will ever require is
your presence and a toast. Let’s
toast to that, well, what do you say?
Grab the wine glass and rise your
hand to the sky for everything else
is just the weather. Whether you
believe it or not is another story,
but let’s give it a shot. Won’t you?
At the end of the day It’s all about
me, you dont care enough so I
sit here in the corner with my guitar.

Sky and Weather

Sky up there
me down here
so who cares?
Anyone in sky
only dead living
on ground and
in.
Listen to rain,
flooding my soul
no crying all else
weather of sorts.

Cumulus & Stratus

Where neither air nor astronauts may live;
Yes, I’m the sky and all the rest is air.

If not for me there’d be no atrium
To hold within the weather and the rain,

From where the cumulus and stratus play.
The teaming life that feeds on coral beds,

The orca pods who prey on lesser whales
As dolphins with their echos guide the young.

The snow on summits where no birds can reach,
The forest at its base, bears hibernate.

The sockeye who return from whence their birth,
And beneficial run-offs where they spawn.

The tribe who grazes stock & gathers fruit,
And nomads follow zebra to the stream.

The fishermen who cast their nets afar,
The children who run naked in the surf.

This is the bounty given with both hands.
Remember, everything relies on this,
So none will turn to ash and be forgot.

Jade, the rules stipulate one entry only.

Which one do you want?

Cumulus and Stratus please, thank you.  (it closed before I had time to delete Periwinkle (which I've now done).  Apologies.

Congratulations to tenderloin who I thought captured the true spirit of this challenge. Also to the runners up - Wanderer and MadameLavender who wrote stonking entries to keep me on my toes.

Honourable mentions also to Lunaschild8 and RevolutionAL who made judging this very hard.

Thank you all for such a great quality competition. Until next time!

Thank you, Miss Sub, for hosting this wonderful competition. Even though my entry didn't make the cut, I'm glad it at least made you ponder over it and gave you some difficulty in the judging process. ;P

I look forward to your next competition.
