The Immortals
they swim in the currents of the deep blue sea
with grace that not all could see
never stop to preen on its beauty
they live devoid of care, grief or glee
silky tendrils glowing softly in the water
liquid flow caressed by the ocean tide
graceful dances on sun kissed wonder
of the sea where mysteries abide
death is not the final destination
for the Turritopsis dohrnii
their immortality is nature's present
for a life without adventurous uncertainty
upon death they sink onto the bottom
deep in their marine domain
resting in pieces in the depth of gloom
awake and enter life as more of them.

Long live the jellyfish
In the brine of forgotten ages,
Drift the jellyfish, translucent and eternal,
their bodies pulsing with borrowed light,
a dance of impermanence.
We mere mortals envy your secret pact,
to give up persecution for eternity,
and embrace the abyss of oblivion,
where memories dissolve like salt in water.
Let us grant them our coveted gift:
Immortality, wrapped in gelatinous grace,
while we, the fleeting sparks of existence,
dive headlong into the oblivious void.
For what is human life but a flash,
a phosphorescent glow against the void
and what is death but a return to the depths
where jellyfish reign, eternal and serene?
So let's raise our glasses to the jellyfish,
the guardians of forgotten time
and toast to our sweet dissolution,
as we approach the cosmic unknown.

Let's hear it for the Stromatolites
T. dohrnii or the Stromatolite
which of these creatures would you rather be,
the hard-worked one, immortal, born to die
then reborn again thus, so endlessly?
Ah, poor T. dohrnii never knows peace
stressed or starved to death then forced to rebirth
a never ending cycle no release,
cursed to wander oceans and seas, of earth...
But Stromatolites, Earth's oldest life form,
a strange sleeping fossil made oxygen,
and kissed into life breathing as the norm
these five-hundred million years, just gone.
Photosynthesing air under night's cloak
I'd be that stone, dreamless, who never woke.

There is Transformation in Death
For some species on earth,
there is transformation in death, a renaissance
if you will, becoming young all over again, whether you
see it as reincarnation or rebirth, a new life begins. There is
transformation in death, some lifeforms can be considered
immortal, the cycle continues underneath the ocean waves,
filling the sea with vibrant and deadly limbs. But that’s the
way nature has made them out to be, a wonderful creation of
beauty and wonder, for when their time comes,
death will give birth to a new generation.

Congratulations to Rew and Slipalong for standing on the podium. Thank you very much to our host, Anne for the honor on this comp. It was a very unique concept and I have to stay a challenging one at that.
Hope everyone is doing well.
