Does that speak to the uncontrolled arrogance of our species? I say yes!

Hmmm ... Don't know the context of this quote but I'm not sure I agree with John Gray on this one, given a recent statement by a powerful leader:
“‘Remember what Amalek did to you’ … This is a war between the sons of light and the sons of darkness” (Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, 3 November)

Haha...John Gray is the English philosopher, he wrote his famous Straw Dogs back in 2003, 20 years on and yeah, he nailed it back then. He doesn't have a high opinion of the human species Josh, a lot like me, guess that's why I love reading him. I love the quote simply because we all like to believe we're the "GOOD" humans, our side we'll make the world great again, just vote for me, or pray to my god . I agree with Nietszche...feed a starving person and you will feel good about yourself...so, if feeling good about myself is good does that make me a good human?
Have a great Christmas man.
Cheers...Harry

“How important can it be that I suffer and think? My presence in this world will disturb a few tranquil lives and will unsettle the unconscious and pleasant naiveté of others. Although I feel that my tragedy is the greatest in history—greater than the fall of empires—I am nevertheless aware of my total insignificance. I am absolutely persuaded that I am nothing in this universe; yet I feel that mine is the only real existence.”
― Emil Cioran, On the Heights of Despair
Well folks I'm heading to my mountain top for a touch of solitude...away with the birds and kangaroos...away from humans...again.
Might pop back in about June 2024.
Happy Festivus to all...Harry

Hi Harry,
I guess feeling good about oneself is better than feeling bad about oneself -- to a point. I don't think it applies to those who feel good about themselves only when they are hurting other people. Anyway, on your 'recommendation' (a quote you posted) I've just got in the post yesterday a book by John Marmysz, (Laughing at Nothing: humor as a response to nihilism). It's a bit heavy going (5 pages at a time for me, then rest) but I've never read a book on nihilism so here goes ...
Also I have on order a copy of John Livingstone Smith's "On Inhumanity: dehumanisation and how to resist it" (again from a posting of yours). I'm wondering which John Gray book to get, I saw Straw Dogs was popular, and then that will be a trilogy on nihilism - which will see me out, I reckon
All the best,
Josh
