A Monthly Nomination Comp for all things “Spoken Word”

Hello, and welcome to the "Spoken Word of the Month" to be featured in the DUP 'Spoken Word of the Month Hall of Fame', as well as across DU's social networking pages, sponsored by Josh!

You have three weeks to nominate your favourite spoken word pieces.

NB: PLEASE DON’T NOMINATE RECENT WINNERS - as of this July 2020 comp, that means Ahavati, Miss_Sub, shadow, Magdalena, socksscareme, summultima, sky_dancer … + June’s winner (please vote now to conclude June’s comp quickly)

Otherwise please note the following when making nominations:

1. Self nominations are not accepted.

2. Until this comp is established, there is no limit to the number of nominations that any one person can make. However, you can’t nominate more than one poem per individual.

3. No DUPLICATES. If someone nominates the same poem the entry will be deleted. If you like it that much wait and vote for it!

4. Any genre except erotica or pornography. This is a Facebook feature and we must adhere to their guidelines.  Cursing is acceptable, but keep it minimal.

5. Any member who is banned or disables their account PRIOR to the win will be automatically disqualified.

6. One win per member per 12 months since a winner last won.

7. All nominators must notify their nominees of nominations (they pretty well always are happy to say ‘yes’, but it’s a matter of courtesy, so they know).

Any nominated member who wishes to opt out of the competition may do so by messaging me. I will contact the person who nominated you and request an alternate nomination. Or you may message them directly.

Nomination Duration is three weeks followed by a week of site voting!

Current Winners:
Nov 2019:   Ahavati   (The Hallowed Wo/Men)
Dec 2019:   Miss_Sub  (Joseph)
Jan 2020:    Shadoe   (into my loneliness comes ii)

June 2020: (Please vote now so as to conclude it quickly - thank you)

NB: To find spoken-word poems on DUP there are 3 different possibilities:
1). Click on any avatar -> Read Poems -> and spoken word poems are identified with a camera icon on the been bar at the bottom of the poem (often also have a picture)
2). Click on ‘Poems’ -> *latest Poems -> Sort Poems -> Spoken-Word Poems
3). Click on ‘Spoken Word’ and you have a choice of 6 sections to browse through (Live Poetry Slam/Performance Poetry/Poetry Readings/Film Poetry/Audio Poems/Music).

This July Spoken Word competition is now closed. A Vote was requested but there is currently no space for it to be placed into the voting process. June's comp is still 'unfinished' in the voting process.

Josh, you have the option of selecting a winner; or, you can request a member choose. I asked Daisy to choose the New Member of the Month because I had nominated someone.  Eerie will be assuming New Member of the Month in August.

O.K, that's good to know, thanks. I won't select a winner until the result of June's comp (stuck in a month-long voting process) is known, in case the same person wins twice.
If I can change the rules to choose July's winner, I'd rather do that because nearly every month the previous comp remains stuck in an unfinished voting process so it's impossible to know who 'not' to nominate regarding the previous month's not-yet-known winner.

I tried to select a winner some time back but the options under the button to select a winner are those who nominated poems (in July's comp that was you, Tallen & socksscareme), not the people who were actually nominated.

So I chose syandeneJahia as the best and suggested admin announce the winner that way, but they put it to a vote instead ... and hey presto got the same result anyway.

Every month the winner of the previous month's comp is never resolved by the 1st of the following month, and sometimes the previous previous comp is still unresolved (eg: on 1st August both June & July's winners were still unknown) making it impossible to list who not to nominate.
In that respect, as a comp, I find it not well designed in relation to what the DUP website mechanics can cope with. Perhaps it should be quarterly with the seasons, allowing plenty of time to resolve who is the previous winner before having to announce the next comp.

It's your competition; I think you should run it however you think is best. Because there is not much spoken word, perhaps bi-monthly or quarterly would be better. This would allow time for them to accumulate!
