New Member of the Month – March 2020
Poetry Contest Description
New Member of the Month Feature!
Welcome to "New Member of the Month" to be featured in the DUP 'New Member of the Month Hall of Fame', sponsored by Tallen.
You have 3 weeks to nominate Your favorite poems from a NEW DUP poet - someone who has been a member for no more than six months.
To locate New Members simply click on 'Poems' > *Latest Poems > Sort Poems > New Members! Thanks to Umm for the image and helping us old people out!
Please note the following when making nominations:
1. Self nominations are not accepted. The great majority of the competitions here are about spotlighting one's own work on a particular topic or theme. This is a chance to nominate that poem that you wish you had written but some other great talent here beat you to it.
2. Until this comp is established, there is no limit to nominations; however, you can't nominate more than one poem per individual new member. *****
3. No DUPLICATES. If someone nominates the same poem the entry will be deleted. If you like it that much wait and vote for it!
4. Any genre except erotica or pornography. This is a Facebook feature and we must adhere to their guidelines.
5. Any member who is banned or disables their account PRIOR to the win will be automatically disqualified.
6. One win per member per calendar year ( 12 months ).
7. All nominators should notify their nominees of nominations.
Any nominated member who wishes to opt out of the competition may do so by messaging me. I will contact the person who nominated you and request an alternate nomination.
Nomination Duration is 3 weeks followed by a week of site voting!

SHINE THE LIGHT
It was dark inside the room
where they chose to meet,
there was so much space,
yet only one seat.
Each one entered slowly,
took his place against the wall,
awaiting the ones who
would walk down the hall.
In single file a circle
they will form,
at it’s centre a light,
radiant and warm
will appear,
it will dance,
until it strikes
like a lance
on the head
of the one, who it is said,
is to “Shine the light”,
who has been selected
to bring insight.
He did not think
it would be him
who was chosen
to sing on that day,
was he ready
to sit in the chair,
allow himself
to go from here to
there and bring
back something
worthy of
being shared.
“TRUST” he heard
ring in his head,
“you must trust
that what needs
to be said
will come out,
have no doubt
if you just let
the rhyme flow,
a truth will emerge
for all to know.”

A Memory On The L
I dream of the same things:
exotic lands, exotic women
a collage of everything
I've kissed
but do not touch
leviathons so big
they passed unnoticed
as we pass unnoticed
to catch a train to work
Meanwhile:
Drunk Punk Mike stands on his corner
with his white witch wife
talking about 1977
when everthing was Alive
Larribee the hippy drinks tea
in the Jewish Quarter of Tangier
with a whore who looks down
on all of us
exotic lands, exotic women
a collage of everything
I've kissed
but do not touch
leviathons so big
they passed unnoticed
as we pass unnoticed
to catch a train to work
Meanwhile:
Drunk Punk Mike stands on his corner
with his white witch wife
talking about 1977
when everthing was Alive
Larribee the hippy drinks tea
in the Jewish Quarter of Tangier
with a whore who looks down
on all of us

STRENGTHENING THE BOND
The distance between us
is an elastic band,
ready and able to
contract and expand.
At times it can stretch
to the utmost extreme,
requiring such energy
with no where to lean.
One side gets hooked,
unable to release
from the rising tensions
which forever increase
the need for readjustment,
for give and take
it’s lack of awareness
which leads to a break.
An observant eye is
kept on our connection,
making sure to detect
any slight imperfection.
Together hooking up
to create the slack,
so often required to
bring closeness back,
dispelling the tension,
relieving the strain,
strengthening a bond
which will always remain.

Identity Crisis: Winning The Battle to Try
A pencil dive into the unknown
Palpatates the organ under my collarbones
My identity in the eye of a storm
amorphous
Without form
I'm searching for more
Label me
Ground me
Anchor me
Put me on stable feet
I can't find a core to rely on
but I promise
I'm trying
I'm trying...
