Co-Hosts - Ahavati & JohnnyBlaze ( the wonderful artist who renders these classic portraits )

rupi kaur is a #1 new york times bestselling author and illustrator of two collections of poetry. she started drawing at the age of five when her mother handed her a paintbrush and said—draw your heart out. rupi views her life as an exploration of that artistic journey. after completing her degree in rhetoric studies she published her first collection of poems milk and honey in 2014. the internationally acclaimed collection sold well over a million copies gracing the new york times bestsellers list every week for over a year. it has since been translated into over thirty languages. her long-awaited second collection ‘the sun and her flowers’ was published in 2017. through this collection she continues to explore a variety of themes ranging from love. loss. trauma. healing. femininity. migration. ‘revolution.
rupi has performed her poetry across the world. her photography and art direction are warmly embraced and she hopes to continue this expression for years to come.

Guidelines
Write a new poem honoring Kaur inspired by any one or more of her poems. We feel listing particular poems may be constricting, and want you to follow the inspiration wherever it leads.
Do your best to make us feel as though we are reading poems by Kaur. The more we feel you "capturing her essence" in "your own words" , the higher you will score. This will involve choice of wording, delivery, subject material, formatting, target audience - a wide range of factors.
The Rules
1. Two entries per DUP persona.
2. No erotica; this is open to all ages and can't be viewed with an ECW ( Extreme Content Warning ).
3. No exact word limit; however, attempt to keep it no more than 250 - 300.
4. Any form is acceptable ( but studying the poet is advised ).
**************NEW***************
5. Webmiss has already created #RupiKaur in the theme list. The page will automatically generate as soon as eight entrants hashtag the theme. Do NOT copy paste your poem to the competition, it must be linked to your page with the below information.
6. In your poem's notes, provide links to the poem by Kaur that inspired yours. Without these, we have no way of determining if you were truly inspired by Kaur or simply swapped fresh words into her existing poetry, which is a form of plagiarism.
Comp will be judged by Ahavati & JohnnyBlaze.
You have one month; best of luck to all entrants!

Due to growing desire among the participants ( whom already have a say in which poets are featured ) for more opportunity to express themselves, we are now allowing a maximum of 2 entries.

Unforeseen Heartache
Nobody thought it would be this hard
Losing a friend or a lover, but then
You are thinking of them when a card
From them shows up once again.
The slow, trickling tears come back,
Not like a train that suddenly hits you
Or the onslaught of rain as the black
Sky swallows you. It slowly builds to
The point where you get subtle aches.
There are no words to describe it, not
Even on the radio. They are heartbreaks
You have no time to prepare for. A knot
And other symptoms appear, sometimes
Months later when you are clearing out
Space in your heart for new butterflies
To hatch. When you choose self-doubt
And think of the times when things were
Less difficult you never stop to let this
Loss go completely. Their absence stirs
Within your soul and their love, amiss.

The same
( after Rupi Kaur )
in my life as I grew less young
the joy in the anticipation
of breaking out on my own
was always good, as life was
to run like the wind as the wind
and be welcomed by Gran’ma
her gentle soul knew my restless spirit
and we often shared words
how much the same we’d grown
as closer I’d become and knew
I’d never have what she’d had
and she was winsome in her loss
how beautiful she was that way
the tears fell bitter on our
tongues
in my life as I grew less young
the joy in the anticipation
of breaking out on my own
was always good, as life was
to run like the wind as the wind
and be welcomed by Gran’ma
her gentle soul knew my restless spirit
and we often shared words
how much the same we’d grown
as closer I’d become and knew

and she was winsome in her loss
how beautiful she was that way

it is so full here in myself
( after Rupi Kaur )
you have never known a creature as myself
i grew from the soil
all else was born from my secrets
overflowing from my belly as wilderness
and from my long dark hair as rain
but also like a tiger
much preparation went into
this honeyed defiance
to take it seriously
yet my skin is rosewood and i have
cultured the sandalwood from myself
but that does not mean
i will be tamed
you have never known a creature as myself
i grew from the soil
all else was born from my secrets
overflowing from my belly as wilderness
