RUNNERS-UP:
SatInUGal
and Josh
the sun and her flowers
Oceans
Oceans internally collide
As storms throw froth
Spray roars with rage
The waves crash into you
Then run away from you
Constant tidal movement
Led in part by the moon
This is how I experience you
I try to love you
Through your chaos
Through your typhoons
Of manic moods and mania
I want to love you
Like my fathers instructions
But your undertow
Is dragging me under
A passive aggressive
Drowning
I welcome your melancholia
The calm before your storms
Your calm sees
Your millpond glass
I happily skate
On your surface
If my love is to last
Become the millpond
And I will be your frog

waterworld
thing about religion? is
just a smidgeon of faith
will take you far through
deserts as a dewdrop does
the flower or a mud puddle
for a camel couple because
having nothing to believe in?
it's the worst thing to believe in -
a not so kind kind of insanity -
such deluge of delusion requiring
a massive ark type of undertaking
as you try to save yourself from
this universe out to drown you

Open your heart (to do list: after the breakup)
( after Rupi Kaur )
Are you a true friend to a friend, my friend.
Have you a gift you’d take all the way there?
It will travel in the small of your hand
Where he had placed it from the north star’s shine.
In the cold of night, and the heat of day,
For a hundred miles, for five hundred miles,
For a thousand miles, for two thousand miles
To keep its clear promise all the way there?
When you arrive at last what will you say,
When you arrive at last what will you do?
Don’t say too much before they ask you in;
Just introductions then give them the gift.
“You seem very nice.” So do you, I’m sure.
“You seem like someone who has everything.”
I never had this before. What is it?
“Here. It’s a prehistoric cameo.”
I see. Good Lord, it’s so small and fragile.
“Strong enough from The White Cliffs of Dover.”
Thank you. Like a human heart in my hand.
“This was never mine, it’s yours now.” Come in.

Competition Piece : Classic Corner Tribute - Rupi Kaur
i wonder if roses experience
growing pains
do their thorns cause them such agony
they think of giving up?
but then again
how can a thing of such beauty
ever grow without
a little effort?
- the rose and her thorns
growing pains
do their thorns cause them such agony
they think of giving up?
but then again
how can a thing of such beauty
ever grow without
a little effort?
- the rose and her thorns

Competition Piece : Classic Corner Tribute - Rupi Kaur pt. II
for the girl with the lovely curves and all the insecurities
you are a beautiful miracle
for the girl with the scar-covered wrists
you are good enough
for the girl who loves too deeply even when they're not deserving
you deserve so much more
for the girl who flinches at her own reflection in the mirror
look a little closer
for the girl about to throw herself into the darkness
open the blinds, let in the sun
for the girl who goes to sleep each night hoping for a brighter tomorrow
you are not alone
- i have been her, and i still am.

My pain it paints a hue
Each stroke my beings canvas
Graffiti spray and wreckage

[ Classic Corner ] [ Politics ] side ways
you may consider yourself
skilled in the art of presentation
but framing pictures to the masses
as opposing forces at work
only illustrates yourself as
the one who needs to perpeuate
division
