Can I Write You A Love Song

Can I write you a love song
I’ll sing it softy in your ear all night long
Blow gently without words on my saxophone
Diamond and Pearls behind the throne
A beautiful ensemble meant for only you
As I give credence too
Take my hand
Cross this journey with me as I sing about faraway lands
Past Egypt pyramids shifting Morocco sands
Lay back my love, allow your mind to silently drift
Feel the enchantment of my piano keys as it spiritual uplifts

I’ll sing love songs of old
A cappella chorus echoed from deep within my enlighten soul
I’ll sing to you about the blues, society’s injustice, and elements of darken storms
Keep your heart warm, while playing my French Horn
Enrapture foretold from this dedicated symphonic poem
A music sheet of percussion, woodwind, brass, keyboard, and strings
Harmony carrying the mind away as the joy of coming spring
I’ll hum your favorite beats, can you feel the crescendo now
Fiddle from the heart by the sweat of one’s brow

Submerge your cerebral cortex, lose yourself in the sultry tunes
Harp sounds bathe of light kissed from the illuminating moon
Destiny overcasts in the lyrics
Fate floating stratospheric
Karma of others handled in the eyes of satiric
Opera, I give you so grand in its grace
French Creole dialect murmured among silk and lace
Sounds of my flute resonant to face
Allowing my Cello sounds to thoroughly embrace

Can I write you a love song
My poetic whispers within the melodies as the ballads of us plays on
Body and soul serenading soprano to keep you standing strong
My guitar stringing your philosophies along
An equal equation, one plus one equals two
Emotions, feelings, sentiments, its tenor expressed only for you
No compass to my heart, my seasonal love found in hidden melodies
Trombone guiding back and forth breathless as it please

Orchestra sounds
Ascending minds, bodies, souls, pass the opening clouds, divine and profound
The last note sung by me as we gradually come down
Beautiful music embraced, needs never to make a sound
Shh, close your eyes
Meditate on the music for a little while

Hush sweet baby don’t say a word
My heart softly tweets to a mockingbird
If that mockingbird don’t sing
Can I write you a love song created only for your being
As minds are sightseeing
Hearts fleeing
Timpani drums guaranteeing
Entwined of our divine wellbeing
Emotional freeing
Crooning of bodies heard as the day is long
Can I write you a love song

Lost Boy

              Lost Boy

I miss you, more than I tend to admit.
Now I've got lots on my mind
that i need to emit.
So here are some words
that I'd like to submit to the page,
about how we lost you at too young of an age.
I thought you were strong, and you were,
but you hurt a bit more than I gauged.
Now you're ash in a box,
and a name on a grave.
Now you're only captured in thoughts
and photographs. Sometimes I think
this could have been stopped,
you could have been saved.

But we were deep down the rabbit hole,
dancing with Alice.
We all have to go eventually.
For now, I'm alone in the palace,
just me a throne and a chalice.
Cold, wrapped in a throw,
seeking my balance.
The king, the queen, the guards,
they've all left.
The jokers are gone, no more jests.
The gold's been spent,
I'm mocked by empty chests.
Still I wander here,
even in my dreams while I rest.
I tried to burn it all to see you in the next.
Not that I believe in that,
but for the longest time
I believed that you would be back.
I saved a Guinness for you,
do you miss your cats?
Do you miss morning bike rides,
or afternoon naps?
You missed my birthday,
but I'll forgive you for that.

Moving on, another chapter to write.
You've got me hoping that
there's an afterlife. If there isn't,
then I guess this is goodnight.
I just hope you feel all right.

My voice now echoes down
empty halls, beneath blackened skies.
Do I curse Alice, the rabbit,
the hole, or my mind?
Trapped, I study these walls in
effort to memorize the climb.
At times I imagine emerging
covered in sweat and grime,
but after so long submerged,
the rabbit hole's light now burns my eyes.
Lonely, in a dark corner,
I lay cold and blind.
I'm having trouble deciding
on where I want to reside.
In this empty castle
a hollow shell,
or is that the same as to die?
Is it worth the hassle
climbing out of this hell?
It'll be tough, I've tried.
Why can't you just be alive?

I need a release,
I keep dreaming that I'm trapped
beneath the foot of my feats.
I need to blow off some steam,
I need my demons to cease,
I need a trigger to squeeze.
Cut the leash off some beasts,
send me a fleet to defeat,
or a dragon in heat
to behead for a feast.

Hell, while I'm wired
I'll start a fire before bed.
I'll slay a thousand winged beasts
and bathe the entire castle in red,
or gain peace in my defeat,
as my soul slips from it's weary stead.
I wish you were here,
not just in my head.
I miss how we joked,
worked, bonded and bled.
I can't believe that you're dead.
I wish I'd known you were dying,
I'd take back words that I said.
I hope you know that I'm trying.
I wish I'd known you were sick,
while we were drinking and smiling,
out all night below the city lights,
picking fights, and prank dialing.
If you are up there looking down,
I hope that you’re still smiling
and any time you find
a moment to spare, could you
read these lines Ryan,
or would that be too death defying?

Moving on, another chapter to write.
You've got me hoping that
there's an afterlife. If there isn't,
then I guess this is goodnight.
I just hope you feel all right.

You could be childish,
still you taught me to be a man.
You had been violent, yet held
compassion some will now never understand,
damn. How could you leave us like this?
We planted a tree for you,
I hope you see that you're missed.
It was a Linden, your favorite, I had to insist.
I'll admit, for a little bit I was pissed.
You could have talked to me.
Looking back now, I see the hints.
But we were two lost boys,
busy burning up the motherland.
Winter storms on the beach, we
treated like wonderland.
With our ski masks on,
we were ready to hike.
The goggles went on
for icy rides on our bikes
and when the gloves went up,
we just might fight.
Like when you crashed your truck
into my car and we both threw strikes,
then laughed it off and got high that night.
We shared Caesars in the morning before
even a bite. Bonfire at noon and by two,
we were feeling all right.

Life without you is a trip,
I'll try to carry on your essence.
I aim to learn from your mistakes,
and pass along your lessons.
I'm currently pumping the brakes,
to deal with some depression.
It's got me reminiscing
about your kind gestures
and funny expressions.
Arguments and barbecues, late night confessions,
trail walks and comic book sessions.
Real talks, about whatever had us stressing.
In times that I was my worst enemy,
you were a great friend to me, no question,
and I'm sorry if I took you for granted.

It felt like we were meant to meet
like we both came from another planet.
Now I'm forced to bid you farewell,
of course, not how I planned it.
There are so many stories to tell,
next to your tree that we planted.
Still, I get broken up,
the duo's been disbanded.
I hate that you're gone,
and at times I can't stand it.
I try to move on, but
I'm scared, I've been abandoned.
I try to be strong,
but I feel stranded and
it's got me on a tangent again.
That's why for now, my hand stays
clamped to a pen.
You were a hell of a pal,
you were a champ of a friend.
I miss you buddy,
I'll carry you till the end.
I wish you a peaceful slumber,
wishes are now all I can send,
and when I'm six feet under
I hope we meet again.
But until then, know
that you're remembered
and missed, Until then,
I'll pretend that you're in
heaven in bliss and if there isn't,
then I guess this is goodnight.
I just hope you feel all right.

More than DNA

Where I come from is no easy question
The answer even more complicated
For I am so much more than my ancestry

I was born in the land of the free
yet my soul is old, from foreign lands
I queue, apologize for apologizing, yet
my bluntness borders on breathtaking
A cuppa solves all the world’s problems
So do many shot glasses of ice cold vodka

I come from generations of stiff-necked people
Stubborn, willful, unyielding, even unto death
my race is my religion, I bow before no man

Poets, painters, scientists, innovators precede me
So many geniuses struck with the artist’s disease
I was not spared their fate, I just know to live better
Eccentric, eclectic, experimental, educated, earnest
are just a few words that describe my inheritance
So are manic, melancholy, melodious, magnanimous

If I perished tomorrow, what would be my legacy?
A survivor, mother, wife, daughter, sister, friend
My words, force of will, devotion to absolute truth
will be remembered of me -I ask for nothing more.

Psyche of the Dark Poet

Sanity is an unsympathetic creature lurking in our blind spots.
If the dusky rays of Gothic art can’t cast out this relentless foe,
Then our gift of imagination and will of expressionism
will ignite its stalking shadow with a vengeance.

I’m proud to be of another psyche.
Without it, would we write
with such metaphorical beauty?
I think not.

In fact,
all these words
would be ordinary.
The hell with ordinary!

I want my head to whirl around without the sense
of what is in front or in back of me.
Can a head spin 360 degrees?
Imagination could.

It can turn this head again and again
until it screws off its spine and lands by my feet.
Even then, I’m not spitting dirt,
I’m chewing what the world has discarded,

Whether it be taboo or the unspeakable,
it belongs to me.
My words, my feelings, my thoughts,
there’s no defined script for imagination.

Latch the hooks into our mouths
with what you think is true
but they will not open for you
or in a way in which you’d perceive.

The distinct silhouette of reality will be within sight,
the metaphor, however;
will have a shadow which blends
into the most potent of light.

Wherever the creature may lie,
its white eyes illuminated in some dark shadow.
Now and again
its claws sting the outer reaches of my body.

The Tale of Two Beauties

With smoke in the air, wind in the trees,
I almost didn’t see the blood on the leaves.
Your pale body spread across a wood,
Not even knowing where your killer stood.

I started to think, he could still be near,
I stopped my breathing, thinking he might hear.
I couldn’t save you, for I didn’t know,
That you were going to die in the snow.

I continued to walk, my breathing slow,
I had to find the source, I had to know.
I dropped real close to the frozen ground,
Hoped he wouldn’t see me if he was around.

I snuck around to a cottage nearly hidden,
It was out of a fairytale, looking forbidden.
It was clear that it had been left to wear,
But I didn’t know your killer lurked there.

I saw the horse first, it was neighing about,
I stopped short, and then I heard a shout.
He stepped outside, another girl in tow,
Hand around her neck, oh, I already know.

I looked around, knowing what I must do,
If I don’t act now, she’ll be dead too.
I found a spot I might could hide,
But I found no weapon before you died.

I was scrambling about when I heard the thud,
I saw your body, already covered in blood.
I knew not what would unfold if I were found,
I tried desperately not to make a sound.

Two beauties were dead, in the mud and snow,
I’d seen this action, and still I hid low.
The cottage was empty, that I could tell,
But so was my heart, when your body fell.

I dared not show myself, or I would die too,
I left you there, as you both turned blue.
I barely made out of there, and not with my wits,
But this will be a tragedy that I will not forget.
