Sappho
O never was there such a time,
When poetry would plumb & mine
The days of Sappho speak.
A woman never meek,
When sandals’ passion creaked
To cadence, meter Greek.
_______________________
Sappho was an Ancient Greek lyric poet. She was required reading for Greek citizens, and her influence on Greek literature & thought is immeasurable.
