Poetry Contest Description
Write a poem about the image provided
They say a picture holds a thousand words. Write one poem about how you've interpreted the image. What is the girl reading? Where is she? Why is she out in the rain? Is it a dream or reality?
Go wild, but don't make it too long. Feel free to message me about any question. Have fun!
*If this competition gets enough interest, I'll make it a monthly tradition.*

Girl in the Rain
She waited in the rain
For a bus that never came
Till her beauty slowly
Began to fail and fade
Gradually she disappeared
Into the sad shades
Of melancholy gray
And every memory of her
Was forever erased
For a bus that never came
Till her beauty slowly
Began to fail and fade
Gradually she disappeared
Into the sad shades
Of melancholy gray
And every memory of her
Was forever erased

A Girl With Her Book
She is sitting all alone on a park bench in the pouring rain and
Her only companion to keep her company is her soaking book.
To someone she may be an outsider, but you should understand
That she is used to being alone. The book has an ability to hook
Her in and take her away from this world into another dimension
Where she does not have to worry about life’s heaviness and tears
Are blending into the pages she is turning. She has apprehension
Like she does not believe she belongs here because all of her fears
Outweigh her hopes and aspirations. She wants someone to share
With and who will sit alongside her like an umbrella that holds her
Steady. Someone who will push aside her disheveled and curly hair,
Saying I am right here. She wants clarity and nothing that is a blur.

LETTING GO
The moment she opened the journal
It had started to rain
She did not move
Transfixed by
His handwritten words
Swirling away
In the false golden hour

Thanks for your entries, eswaller and SatInUGal.
SatInUGal: interesting poem. I'm quite curious as to what the man wrote to garner such interest from the girl without her even caring about getting soaked. Nicely done!

So am I
I was also asked about what happens next, and this was my response:
"I like to think part of her swirled away as well, and she got up lighter and ready for the next chapter, but I'm an optimist and I really do not know her that well."
Also, thanks!

Haha, fair enough. It's up to us readers to interpret it for ourselves.

Angel On Her Shoulder
For the" A picture holds a thousand words Comp"
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
She sits again in the rain
How often will this repeat
But she doesn't complain
There is still the rain to beat
She has a brolly that wont open
For her it's like a kind of torture
But she's a fighter and she's coping
The answer seems to be obscure
Only the colour of the gown changes
The rain remains a constant monsoon
Flicking through her book her mind rearranges
She needs to find the right words soon
Time is her mortal enemy and running out
But there's an angel on her shoulder praying
She really doesn't care what he's babbling about
She fears him not nor anything he is saying
She reads her mothers Grande Grimwoire
Dark arts, magic, spells and potions
Gods torment for her is not a bar
As he tries to play with her emotions
The angel on her shoulder will sometimes shout
But she will find the right spell to try
She will create a world wide drought
And all of human kind will die

She Doesn’t Mind the Rain
She says she doesn’t mind the rain,
It helps wash away the pain and sorrow,
She likes being out there reading,
Waiting to see the new tomorrow.
She loves the feeling of the downpour,
Watching the words fall off the page,
She says it gives her a happy solitude,
Away from all the madness and the rage.
And as the sentences fall into her dress,
She hurries to tries to read the next,
But the torrent is beating her to it,
So she laughs as she loses the text.
She says she doesn’t mind the rain,
As the words from her journal wash away,
Sitting in a park bench, in the dark drenched,
Letting go of the past, waiting for a new day.
She says she doesn’t mind the rain,
It helps wash away the pain and sorrow,
She likes being out there reading,
Waiting to see the new tomorrow.
She loves the feeling of the downpour,
Watching the words fall off the page,
She says it gives her a happy solitude,
Away from all the madness and the rage.
And as the sentences fall into her dress,
She hurries to tries to read the next,
But the torrent is beating her to it,
So she laughs as she loses the text.
She says she doesn’t mind the rain,
As the words from her journal wash away,
Sitting in a park bench, in the dark drenched,
Letting go of the past, waiting for a new day.

THE LADY WAITS
Why to this bench, on this date do you come?
Ever in lilac satin gown arrayed.
What mysterious book do you read from?
Why is the umbrella thusly displayed?
Each year I return come clear skies or rain
to this spot where we, devout soulmates, wed.
The stars did witness, our kiss did sustain
exchanged vows whilst Moon officiated.
In my journal I read proofs of our tryst
Loves seed planted, nurtured, grown in just hours
Umbrella closed tight though deluge persist
For ink bleeds more from tears than from showers.
Far off, disguised, on forlorn love spying.
Two hearts entwined, in harmony crying.
Ever in lilac satin gown arrayed.
What mysterious book do you read from?
Why is the umbrella thusly displayed?
Each year I return come clear skies or rain
to this spot where we, devout soulmates, wed.
The stars did witness, our kiss did sustain

Far off, disguised, on forlorn love spying.
Two hearts entwined, in harmony crying.
