The Anointing of The Christ:  Mark 14: 3-9

It all began when she decanted the bottle, precious
nard, flowing in rivulets, skin
awash in aromas of Frankincense and myrrh—

O, the anointing hath come upon
The Christ Jesus, and in flashes
He saw the Resurrection, yet
she was condemned, wasteful,
by acid tongues seeking Earthly riches.

Store up ye treasures in Heaven, seek
not the terminal world, for Mary of Bethany
shall be remembered by
her loving deeds.

And as she washed His feet
with her hair, for the burial, she never was
suddenly wishing she could put the cork, back.

Thank you, MadameLavender, for bringing another unique voice to the page. It was one of my favorite bible stories as a child.

ONE LAST SIP

It all began when she decanted the bottle
Downing vodka to drown out her great misery
Just straight shots without a thought
Tumbling and slurring
Eyes so heavy, getting more blurry
She just wanted to give up
Wanted to jump
Just one step....
Because to her....
Life was forever meaningless
No one to stop her
No one can try
She hates what she has become inside
Tears stinging her fog filled eyes
And that, is when....
True hell would begin
She then.....
Stumbled off.....
Oh the regret she felt in the instant
But just one last thought
Before she hit the ground
As she fell to her death.....
*OH NO...No one... to save me now*
Accepting the fate
VERY soon to come.....
Suddenly wishing she could put the cork back

playing with fire

It all began when she decanted the bottle…
Not knowing what was to come
We never thought what could go wrong
That is where we were both so very wrong
Look at what we have become
You of all people should have done better
And now you are on your knees 24/7
Turning every joe that looks your way
Your once beautiful red hair now filthy
Those pale green eyes that used to shine
Now dull and vacant staring off to somewhere better
Where do you go my love?
A long distant memory of when love existed
Your knight in shining armor was never far
Where is he now, off with other trick
But who am I to say anything
I have not done any better
Don’t know if ill make it long now
So hooked on anything that takes me away
Anywhere is better than here
Selling my body just like you
But at least I have a stage
I wish I could say we can walk away
There is no way out once you sell your soul
And now she was silently praying
Desperately hoping with all she could pretend
But most of all she was
Suddenly wishing she could put the cork back

The Bottle

It all began when she decanted the bottle
The sweet aroma filled her nose
As she poured herself a glass
Tiny bubbles sparkling as they danced about

The saccharine taste of fruit filled her mouth
Tantalizing her taste buds
As she drank in the sinful liquid
Welcoming the numbness that followed

Her skin warmed, tingling with every sip
Another glass and her thoughts became hazy
All inhibitions melted away
She dialed a number she should have forgotten

The midnight night sky was black as onyx
The phone rang endlessly
Until a distant voice finally whispered hello
No words escaped her lips, she was frozen

She hung up the phone, mortified
In disbelief at her drunken actions
She staggered down the hall to her bedroom
Suddenly wishing she could put the cork back

Through the eyes of a child...now an adult

it all began when she decanted the bottle
Or was it her friend that had her cave in

Good intentions but fun overcomes
Rules are dissregarded sin an obsession

Feeling intensity a bliss that one would normally not see
Parched...sooo parched...contine drinking

Sight a blurr and body comfortable
Glad to be comforted by a friend and not an unknown person

A feeling of not that a friend would give
Start to push away, though feeling a better feeling

Mascara runs also the fun
"Can this really be happening....to me?"

Scream and all she hears are laughs
Voice is stammering as the attempts turn into gasps

Lying now alone happy that it's done
Will she ever be the same recover all the shame

Falls to the floor, as she realizes shedding even more tears
Suddenly wishing she could put the cork back

What a powerful and painful entry, Unconventional. Leaves me a bit speechless and wanting to hug that child/adult tightly. Thank you so much for joining us
