Sorry I normally don't like commenting on competitions
But I'm a sucker for poems about drugs
And dudes I read everyone's entries
And if this was my competition
I would have a hell of a time deciding.
These poems are amazing guys and girls.

25th Hour Nepenthe

She preferred forgetting during fictitious hours

There was just something so darkly amusing

About doing such bizarre things.

With a glass of contraband alcohol

She slurred words of nothingness

Trying to forget her insecurities.

Falling from the bar stool

Blood and glass all around

She laughed at her foolishness.

It will hurt tomorrow

Who cares about her anyway?

Waste of skin and time.

Club Sixteen

This psychedelic dream seems perpetual
As if time is slowed to a crawl
And all about me are naked neon lights
Flickering with images of drugged out dancers
Dressed in too tight clothes, unfit to be called classy

Echoing undertones of sadness ruminate
And my woebegone loneliness fades into the hues
Of misdirected glances and hard beat trances
From cologne soaked sophomores
Rubbing their junk against defiled purity of a sort
That's masked by an inseparable eroticism
Wafting about like it's legal, but only here

Inside the club are the naive, the ungrown
Who dance with their innocence until
They are barely recognizable even to themselves
As they stare like strangers into a hazy mirror
Of the piss filled bathroom with dusty coked up floors
And used condoms strewn about
Like it's everybody's honeymoon

Those with hair that resembles rainbows
Who are sixteen going on thirty-two
Have no cares but for their parched tongues
And wet underwear that smells like before and after
As if to exclaim that they are old enough to roll the dice

All of this melts into one pounding headache after another
That I struggle with nightly
At which time, I'm politely discarded
Like trash that never seems to go away
It's a migraine the size of my prostate
And until what I'm waiting for comes
In my head there is little left but noise

I SAW YOU

I believe in angels
I know what they can do
They surround us all, even you
Angels do exist
I know because I saw him

Doesn't matter if yours is a him or a her
They do exist here on earth
Did you ever have a brush with death
And wonder how you made it???

[b]I saw you with my own eyes
Dressed all in white
With a glowing light
As big as life
Drifting away feet just above ground
Thank you for sticking around

You had no hallo, no wings
Thank you for showing yourself to me
You gave me something to believe
To much to drink, to many pills
If it weren't for you I wouldn't be here

My eyes closing and a telephone pole
The last thing I remember
Until I saw you
I waited for your return
When you didn't I thought you were an imaginary figment

My head in a fog
I didn't know what you were
Now I do I have no fear
I feel you around me all the time
Thank you for staying by my side

The Curse of An Addict :
I Remember Being A Year Old
Running Face First Into My Birthday Cake
 You Made Me
I Remember Being Five
Learning How To Tie My Shoes
You Taught Me...

Sad To Say These Are The Only Happy Memories Of You

I Remember Being Nine,
Crying Begging To Go Home To Mommy
You Were Drunk
And You Were Hurting Me
I Just Didnt Understand

I Remember Being Eleven
Hoping Maybe Daddy Would
Forget About His Girlfriend
He Said Her Name Was Crystal Meth
I Was Overjoyed He Finally Did

And Then I Remember Being Twelve
Praying To God To Set Me Free From You
All I Ever Wanted Was For You To Love Me
Sick Part Is You Did
In All The Wrong Ways
I Remember The Blood...
My Torn Skirt..
The Beer On Your Breath
The Smell Of Meth On Your Clothes

I Spend Sleepless Nights Alone
Wondering Why My Daddy Was So Different
For Fourteen Years Hurting Me Was Your Mission
I Could See It In Your Eyes You Were Truly Sick

I Thought Id Finally Escaped All The Pain
Just To Come Home To My Mother With A Man
Who Turned Her Into An Addict, A True Fiend.
I Found My Mother Hooked On Daddy's Old Flame
Miss Crystal I Said, I See We Meet Again.

My Mother Never Understands Why It Hurts Me So Bad
To See Her Pupils The Size Of Dimes
And Watch Her Run About The House
Yelling That Nothing Is Clean
She Doesnt Understand Thats What
Made Daddy So Mean..
Pointing Her Finger "Ive Told You A Thousand Times!"
Her Favorite Thing To Scream,
If Only My Mother Was Sober
Shed See Its Her Running A Muck, Not Me.
Ive Lived Through Eight Teen Years Now
Surrounded By A Family Of Addicts
And I Have Learned That It Is The Curse Of An Addict;
To Chase What Destroys Them.

It Saddens Me To See That My Efforts Are Futile
Ill Never See My Mother Wear A Sober Smile
It Will Always Be Twitching
Her Tell All Sign Of Being High
With Her Big Pupils And Glassy Eyes.

Lysergide Experience

Infinitesimal rainbow pearls
locked within
two,
tangible,
tablets,

Unleash…

Cherry-like drops
of chewable florescent dreams
that descend
bountifully,
upon heavy
blue,
lids,
seamlessly quiet,
like muted waves
surfing clarity’s pallet.

Peak…

Silvery topped mushroom canopies
of forested shadows,
kaleidoscopic atoms dance
along intoned nuance
melting through,
vaporous silk streams
flooding senses,
filtering melodious,
along chromatic scales
of perceptual dimensions.

Release…

The night’s song –
a come-down ballad,
Floydian visions,
surreal oceans,
a perfect communion
of the lysergide experience
