I am a husband/I am a father
met my wife online at 17
we used to send dirty letters to each other
because we didn’t have cellular phones
and logging online was, well dial up
she sent me a throw away camera the one day
told me to develop the photos
I remember the faces of the workers
the one said a remark then handed them over
the pics were of her in her underwear
a first of wild moments
when we met in person was at the airport
I was walking up the ramp when I saw her
it was the weirdest feeling
like a best friend I’ve know all my life
wasn’t...

Ugly Duckling
Ugly Duckling
Life was perfect in that summer of 1994. After having passed the final exams at university, Tom and I took a flight to Las Vegas where we got married. During the following
two weeks we wanted to spend our honeymoon travelling across the United States.
Our money was tight, so we were glad to hear about a car rental in Omaha, called „Ugly Duckling“, which specialized in renting old vehicles at a small price. At a petrol station we asked how to get there. The friendly attendant explained that the car rental would be easy to find, „About 30 minutes down the...

Evening Prayer
For a time, The Priest
or Priestess will come, rambling
to remember —
body and blood in sacred light, when
bended knees and bowed heads
chanted verse; when
heaven and mortal flesh
kept silence in the ambience
of candles and curls of incense smoke.
Late afternoon, she came to this place,
offering her barely-sung song,
murmured words, and a sign:
Abba, Beloved
and the Holy
Synthesis.

stupor
she is certain she knows the way
carves a crevasse into my heart
cruel princess of submission
glides above the ballroom
baltic arms extended
with cold precision
she reaches for her throne
imperial mistress
she is certain what she wants
famine and fever
men cannibalised for her attention
beaten to the edge of ruin
until there is nothing left
beaten stupor and raw
beaten for the perilous crown
to dethrone her king
my royal highness flush
her magical fabric
clinging...

all the way
Women don’t move me so much these days
and I think they feel the same way
about me
grey hair lines on a face
in your forties yeah ok rugged man
but 52 and the slope of the graph isn’t right
for romance
the good about it
is I’m not up all night chasing the latest
just can’t find a song I haven’t already heard
the last joke on a bachelor
if you taste all the flavours
one day
all vanilla
it’s hormones sure
the colour of my blood
doesn’t...

spring morning
Spring Morning
today, waking up, it was warmer, the winter
had been cold at times, freezing electric heating
is not for those with a slim wallet
Today, we will write pleasant poetry
not like the boy at the edge of his bed, his feet
not long enough to reach the floor, crying
for yet again losing his home because his mother
has tuberculosis, has to go to a sanatorium
his has to go living among strangers, he has to
be nice to and not be boisterous
Yes, pleasant thoughts, not letting bitterness seep
into this day...

SLEEPY SILENCE
Tame the daylight
A sleepy silence
The gentle half-open wait
He continues to yearn for a destiny
Glide its faint waves
Between woven sighs
Melancholy finds a nest
In the calm that he does not name
A sleepy silence
The gentle half-open wait
He continues to yearn for a destiny
Glide its faint waves
Between woven sighs
Melancholy finds a nest
In the calm that he does not name

The 24th, Unnamed
There is something about,
The early realm of mist,
That slips inside,
Consciousness.
That awakes,
An unsung song,
Curled upon the tongue.
As I walk,
Enchanted,
I watch,
A low slung belt of mist,
Riding up the mountain's hips.
The unyielding day,
Pierce the trawling touch of gray,
Casting its breath of light,
Its breath of life,
Through the descent of condensate.
I watch the pallor,
The sickness,
Evaporate.
Expose the swathes of green,
Breaking through the boughs,
The fronds,
