A Long Way Back

These 4 walls staring at me don't talk back
Everyone is asleep here and my mind is roaming elsewhere; it's 1 a.m. do you know where your friends are?
This bottle and glass, they're starting to be good company
And this warm buzz is feeling a lot more comforting
Pandora drowning out the sounds of nothing and no one
And the whats, whys and ifs of a day that should have been long done
*Clink*
Toast the bottle, my partner in this little deed
Should've named the stuff prescription, it's the medicine I need
My body begins to sway, a fuzzy feeling in my brain
Is it the melody in the music or the venom in my veins
*They tried to make me go to rehab*
I giggle from the irony I found in this empty glass
Dancing's out of the question so I just wiggle on my ass
And then I remember why her talent is just a  memory
She took her last drink and last bow at the same age as... me....
Hmmm... Damn....
Suddenly these sips aren't as sweet
But this bottle is just as empty as it's promise I believed
Like an explorer in search of treasure in distant lands
I close one eye and look inside this bottle in my hand
*Captain Morgan I am not*
With dreams of finding wealth and adventure awaiting my fate
I'm stuck with another lonely night, Netflix and canceled dates
My eyes haze with what might have been and what I should have done
Dawn approaches and before the new day's even begun
I realize as the fog lifts and with each beat of this hangover
That I miscalculated, it's a long way back to sober...
