Hawthorne
Racing rapidfire across the way
out of that dust bowl blaze
melted onto 5th street
rustled into the Sand n Sage.
& so it is that i am become this burnt toast earth
a slab of pale beefsteak sizzling away
as the brain sweats yesterday out
this whole town, it occurs to me,
looks as if it is
one large abandoned
dogeared rooftop, ...

Death Waits Only for the Rain
( Prose )
The summer’s humidity creeps the simulated sidings of the trailer home that sits in its rental stall on pilings at the below-sea level park near a train trestle towering over a flat, dry riverbed, silhouetted against the naked glare of a full moon.
In times past, long before there was a drought, heavy rains that came annually like clockwork would fill the riverbed with season’s deluge like an El Niño. It would cascade its banks, and had always caught park residents’ children unaware; playing too close with tragic results as the river’s path...

Maybe tomorrow
I used to run,
used to play all day outside
beneath a scorching sun.
I was building strength
while having fun.
Losing hours, but still I'd won.
Using new found power, finding
new bruises in every shower.
Climbing roofs to
soak in views
and getting grass stains each time I'd
slide or plunge
down green hills to catch that ball.
New trails each day just for
thrills, our goal after all.
Street lights spoke to us
before we had phones to call ...

Vertigo Rising
After an accident to my head,
I was taken to hospital
Disappearing in body and mind.
When I finally emerged, pale
And squinting in the sun’s glare,
I hadn’t felt it for months.
The lights of traffic & media,
The bafflement I had in public
Longing to be in my cocoon;
To sleep in a big, clean bed,
To gaze out my own windows
Overlooking the garden & trees.
The long killer summer with its
Triple digits left suddenly,
Follow’d by what I was dying for.
But now I...

I'm Still Dreaming
Think of the days when we had it made
Summers were endless and cool in the shade
Under the stars life wasn't hard
We'd look up and dream some day we'd go far
But as we get older the stars turn to cars
We settle for small things and even who we are
But I'm still dreaming, I'm still dreaming big
I want inches to heaven and miles to dig
My youth isn't over until I say it is
Aren't the days worth living
The days like this?
Think of the times as we wasted away
But in our young minds there was no other...

Summer days
It's turning to spring, and I am back from my winter.
I spent it far below the border
where the air is warmer,
a hot spot for some sinners.
Not me though,
I've thought only of you,
I've longed for your golden pollen
and playful petals of blue.
I brought for you the rain,
I've turned the frost to warm morning dew.
Perched upon a branch,
I'll guard the lands as I wait for you to bloom.
For you I'd fly to the moon,
It's just what lover's do
for one another
when there...

Unsung Threnody For A Well Sewn Hero
Bare skull and cross bones

outskirts of poker flats
lives a slip of a man,
whereat he never felt deserving
accolades linkedin

sans pat on back congrats,

i am the grass and i feel everythng
i am the grass, sitting here passively in different shades of friendly green
i look up to the sky as that is the only view above my eyes
and i question how is my birds eye view fair
maybe i want to turn sideways, take in a different view
i grow from the soil and i shoot upwards
sometimes my surface takes footstep of someone elses shoe
and i realise i'm here for a purpose, nature in the colour green
i thrive in the spring and dry out in the strong summers sun
when it rains i'm happily hydrated
passive, strands of hair live...

Seduction in the Orange Groves
In rows of citrus trees the workers tend
My fam’ly’s enterprise a century.
Among Valencia where I would fend,
And since I came of age they all could see—
The girl-turned-woman child is like an orange,
With flesh as smooth & scented of its bloom.
Don’t ever taste the skin of burnished orb;
Must leave the tree, deny of its perfume.
They also knew the foreman had his sight
To pluck the succulent from off the tree.
He could not reckon such a dare would bite,
How willingly to tempt the Fates was he.
Yet to his nerve...
