OVERCOME
Within sleep, unspoken scars
All that's left are bleak memoirs
Plugged the wounds with every smile
And words kept brief
Laid to rest beneath the dirt
In a land I'll not return
Lies a corpse of hope resiled
That haunts my dreams
Ripping through the calmest scene
There's a storm that beckons me
This malice from darkness birthed
'Round every turn
In these halls that ebb and flow
Every person seems to know
The same emptiness that burns
Each gaze averts
All reasons aside
Something in me...

Her ferocity
has been
the shield
for her fragility
My girl, Betty
Her talent oozes
drips right
off the page
as she applies
her makeup
to cover her
heart bruises
her body and words
weapons of destruction
sisters in solidarity
in this war of
love, lust and trust
some days it feels like
the end of us
but carry on
we must
The battlefield
strewn with bodies
battered and bloodied
her white flag torched

Let Go.
I just put my hand over my head and thought,
There's so much to the hand than the hand itself,
What if it was cut off and grief sets in,
Consumed by anger and succumbed to sadness,
All the days you took it for granted, now it is separate from your body,
You yearn for the attachment...you take a look at it, taking it closer,
Touching yourself, smelling it, seeing it for what it is, the softness,
The uniqueness of each finger, the beauty of your nails, femininity of your thumb,

Income dipped then credit tripped over obstacles
Got bold in survival mode and learned to hurdle
I'm not Fievel but this reveals my American tale
The pursuit of higher levels has retail shops in HELL
Determined to prevail and excel by any means
A Soldier and lifelong learner staying on my dean
Fiend for knowledge, knowing the best college is life
Where the admission toll is toils of turmoil and strife
An institution rife with barrels & shovels deferring degrees
Instead of conferring, it's offering nights on our knees ...
