Equinox
You’re hope and bleakness.
You’re flashes in the gloom.
You’re stifled laughter.
Your colors barely show.
Your cold shoulders are nothing new.
Neither there nor here, the skies split into two.
Sun comes swinging in on his pendulum.
The moon child peeks among bare boughs.
Roots stomp and stretch to nudge their heads-
it’s time to throw off frosted covers.
The door opens and rushes forth green lips-
all the more to drink in life, my dear.
Spring, I’m glad you’re here.

The door opens and rushes forth green lips-
all the more to drink in life, my dear.
Spring, I’m glad you’re here.

They are coming every evening
In May, under the eaves
of the garage my eyes
become accustomed
to the glaze
as a soft fairy tale begins. It is fraught
of waged chaos
in translucent green against transcendent white.
Of gossamer gossamer, gossamer cotton, gossamer flies, gossamer shores.
Seeding, eating, surviving
relative to evanescence.
This land of May, I
stand interdependently
upon the early evening
drawling to soon evening
and the constant striking of novel lights after another upon my twang true.
Beings so bright as to not forgive...

cottonwood
flank muscles right quick right now
natural like a contract initialized
however the horsefly raises flack
a banter of swiping heads or tail
if only the brain could switch off
an idea as the horse twitches
a mitochondrion web of feeling feeling
round round presses the clop clop
of our soul skull penned in
(yelling (yelling) yelling) into
the bytes of existence
i pluck away a cottonseed
its white felt nervous
capillaries absent a grey mass

Behold the marvelous wildflowers!
Behold the marvelous wildflowers!
How they boldly carpet a sloping glen –
Our gift from Earth’s seasonal showers.
Hardly is the desert recognizable
Come March to an untrained eye when
Spring has announced herself in full
Except for occasional saguaros –
The perennial observers to this annual display –
Perched on the precarious ledge they chose.
Penstemon and globe mallow are in glee;
Even the palo verdes celebrate
By showering the ground with yellow confetti.

So Much For Keeping That One Promise
Even though she made
promises to be a good
girl while on Spring Break,
Shannen allowed herself
to go wild on a local
beach in Cancun, Mexico.
