Among the Ice
I float among the ice
pieces sharp enough to slice
cut through all these lies
sever all the alibis
Everything I do lack
all that holds me back
from who I long to be
from finally feeling free
Within the turning of the tide
every truth I ever denied
now coming into view
with a perspective ever new
Breathing deep the cold air
suddenly now aware
of the truth that lies ahead
beyond all I should have said
So, I then set a truer course
follow the way of the Norse

Glacial Musings
In this land of ice and snow
the pace of life is glacial slow
the face of truth forever blue
wherever any lie may be true
For I have journeyed a long way
just to have this chance to say
hello to my new self…
put the old me on the back shelf
Feeling the colder arctic air
telling me always to beware
of this scourge I left behind
with a new paradise to find
As I sit here safe offshore ...

wherever any lie may be true
For I have journeyed a long way
just to have this chance to say

You Deserve A Break Today
A man by the name of Chester was the owner of a McDonald's on the outskirts of Green Bay, Wisconsin.
Sometime in March 1980, he was driving North on Interstate 43 when he crashed his car.
There was a decent snowfall occurring with icy conditions.
His vehicle had crossed the median and into the southbound lanes before hitting a guardrail.
Chester was able to climb out of the burning wreckage, pulled off all of his burning clothes and stood naked in the middle of the road.
In a matter of minutes, Chester was run over and killed by an oncoming tractor-trailer. ...

Snowfall
The sunlight peeks through the clouds
A subtle gleam in the pristine white
You add a dash of colour with your locks of chocolate brown
Your smile is enough to set my soul alight.
The first snow is beginning to fall
They leave a wet caress upon your honeyed skin
I’m left intoxicated more so than by alcohol
As I yearn for our journey to begin.
I’m looking forward to the snowfall
Your love has gotten me through it all
What once was dark has now turned bright
My frozen heart has melted with your light.

Twilight Trails in the Mountain's Hush
In the mountain's gentle cradle, where the quiet pines do play,
Under sun’s retiring light, the snowscape dons the cloak of day.
Skis carve silent paths with grace, in turns of silent might,
While nature’s hushed and whispered tones, slip into alpine night.
In the caress of solitude, where chill and vision fuse,
A waltz of shadows, light, and spark, the lonely path I choose.
Trails stretch out to touch my dreams, they reach with fading light,
As day's last rays tug soft at seams, and coax the coming night.
Soft is the swish of skis in eve, a...

Big Bear's Winter Whisper
In the silent hush of Big Bear's embrace,
Where snowflakes dance with delicate grace,
A frozen canvas, under the sun's soft gaze,
Speaks of serenity in a million ways.
Footprints etch stories on the white expanse,
A testament to nature’s quiet romance.
Mountain air whispers through the pines,
In this haven where tranquility aligns.
Here, gratitude blooms like alpine flowers,
For this retreat with its timeless hours.
A balance struck 'twixt peace and play,
Where nature’s hand skillfully sways.

Mourning Snow
I watch the white flurries fall
unable to count them all
one flake at a time
with no hope of weaving rhyme
For here in the dead of winter
I feel my thoughts now splinter
to buried places I have been
also endings I never did begin
How then to tally the cost
of every stanza then lost
just a part of this mosaic
forever trapped in the prosaic
Somehow losing my only way
caught up in the winter fray
of wicked winds now blown
tattering all that I had known
Still longing for poet dreams

True Steps
I seek to find an authentic place
where I may wear my truest face
revealing the real me
no longer conceal what I see
For the page is a field of snow
the only place I dare to go
leaving drops of my bled ink
right up to its very brink
Not marginalizing the edge
as I again keep my pledge
to be true to myself
leave others’ books on their shelf
Never dazzled by the sheen
of all that I have seen
but relish what has begun
with each new rising sun
Now setting off on foot
I dust off all of this...
