One Nervous Teenager
He would go to those dances
He could never get the nerve to ask a girl to dance
Like he would really know what to do when he got out on the floor
He had tried dancing alone in his room and had gotten so embarrassed that he just had to stop
He watched men & woman dancing on TV & movies
They made it look so easy
Women were so mysterious and full of shit
He wouldn't have a clue what to say to one if he ever got the chance
The dances went by and he went to almost all of them
He would find the darkest part of the gym and watch them with his back...

Katrina
We spent a lifetime apart,
But I knew right from the second start,
That you have an important piece of me.
Like a blast from the past,
I smiled and you laughed.
I wasn’t expecting that we’d ever meet.
I smoked your memory away.
Thought I’d gone for the grave,
But then you recognized.
I saw it in your eyes,
No word of a lie,
It could be written on the horoscope page.
Is our future without?
My heart is taken, no doubt,
Yet we...

Going Dutch
seem to be reminiscing alot of late. today about the 14 schools i went to, in the space of just 11 years, the first two in Dutch (my favourite, the second Dutch school, i was teachers pet. i know this, as she kept me in a cage at the back of the class!) in reality, i was invited to her house. she was widowed, her husband had been in the Dutch Resistance during WWII, and died at the ands of the Nazi's. she taught me how she made her own butter, and was generally a really lovely woman, that i desperately hoped would adopt me, anything to get away from my family! her name was Mrs Paul...

She never listened to anybody
This was around the time I was 8 or 9 years old.
I was in the 3rd grade.
The teacher's aid always told her and the rest of us not to stand up on the swing.
She always did it anyway.
She never listened to anybody.
I heard she had a terrible upbringing.
She was beaten by her mother for being mischievous and defiant.
Her father would come home when he wanted to.
He was a traveling salesman.
Supposedly he had two mistresses, with families in Texas & Virginia.
I hated her guts because she always used to chase me home from school, pull my hair...

The Schoolboys and the Rastafarian Men (With original Patois quotations)
Two schoolboys, Dan and Josh, attended the Independent City All Age School in St. Catherine. In the evenings, they used to walk through a cane field near the school when they were going home. Many tall coconut trees bordered the cane field. Dan and Josh would cut sugar cane and pick coconuts to eat. In addition to that, they would carry some sugar cane and coconuts home.
The boys had a big problem. They had to pass a construction site on the way home, and some men who worked there would beg them sugar cane and coconuts. If the boys refused to give the men what they asked...

The Tragic Tale of a Young Girl's Body
She was young, just a tender age
Filled with innocence and wonder
Her body, firm and full of life's stage
But little did she know, she'd soon be torn asunder
She walked with grace and confidence
Unaware of the danger that lurked
Her beauty, an ever-present presence
But to the predator, she was just a piece of meat to be shirked
She knew not of the evil that lay in wait
As she strolled through the streets
Her mind filled with dreams and fate
But all those hopes would soon meet their defeat
He watched her from a...

Curatrix For Budding Chaucerphiles
Curatrix For Budding Chaucerphiles
She dusts books with her burning hair. Her flaming tresses brush the words of the opened pages of ‘Canterbury Tales’ licked by her locks. She kisses due date cards for boys desirous of her lipstick strawberries.
“Ms. Rowena, doesn’t your hair collect dust from brushing those old books?”
“It is my way of worshipping the authors. I think they would be honored.”
“If you say so. But I doubt making your hair into a dust broom crossed their mind as adulation.”
“They would be tickled pink at...

Mel and Boyo
Chapter 1
Bird Bush
Mel was a ten-year-old boy, and Boyo was eleven years old. They were schoolmates who attended a primary school in the country. Boyo used to wear a straw hat with wide brim when he was not in school. They were mischievous boys, and they were rude to adults and children. Moreover, they often played tricks on each other, and they did the same to other people.
Both boys enjoyed catching birds, and they made traps called callaban from narrow sticks and strong vines. In the mornings, they would go to bird bush and set the traps, and in the...
