Full Measure
I have measured out my
life with coffee spoons” ~ T.S. Eliot
So how many spoons will it fill
all of this ink which I spill
often in haste…
though never thought in waste
As I will now feebly try
perhaps paint the pale sky
without need of a plane
just the colors that remain
Only these delicate hues
mostly greens and blues
are still left
able to lend any heft
For these words I dare say
struggle to make their way
onto to the stark page
in an anemic attempt to engage

Uji
Japanese for "Living in the Moment"
Each moment is a smooth ridge
an impermanent bridge
between then and when
the future arrives
filling all of our lives
with infinite slices
carves up the stream
stitches together the dream
to make its downy fabric
a tapestry of emptied time
embroidered with rhyme

Sand Dollar
Though I found you on the beach
I buried you out of reach
for you are worth way more
than any rich bounty
even though you are chipped
still slightly cracking
I just had to put you back
to replace all that I lack

Contemporality
How can we use rhyme
to somehow contain time
steer its flow
endear its passage
Let memories and dreams
share the same streams
blend ever together
in some temporal mélange
Where future and past
are now able to last
a gift in the present
a glimpse of eternity
Join the noble fraternity
of those who are sage
who transcend their age
delve deep into the verse
Skirt this most modern curse
of killing time
such a mortal crime ...

Metapoetics
So, what is its essence
when you boil down a poem
distill the words
concentrate the art
Where to start
where to end
with this artistic blend
of oral and written creation
More than just mere phonetics
this cryptic metapoetics

Tidal Truth
I want to be this
to feel again the bliss
of its timeless truth
older than all of our lies
Always such the surprise
though clearly in plain sight
the moral encompassing right
for all of our days
Meant never to be denied
be forever true… as the tide
to feel again the bliss
of its timeless truth
older than all of our lies
Always such the surprise
though clearly in plain sight
the moral encompassing right
for all of our days
Meant never to be denied
be forever true… as the tide

Concretely
The high ceiling is revealing
in its dappled grey
often unclear in what it has to say
with its cold cracked ambiguity
coarse riddles cryptically read
in poems still left unsaid
telling it all
but not saying a thing
as my hopes hope to cling
to some long forgotten rhyme
falling out of the pocket of time
in its dappled grey
often unclear in what it has to say
with its cold cracked ambiguity
coarse riddles cryptically read
in poems still left unsaid
telling it all

as my hopes hope to cling
to some long forgotten rhyme

Quantum Poetics
A most discrete discretion
only in want of a confession
for I am certainly uncertain
of what truth lies behind each curtain
For words both written and unwritten
stay inspired by Erwin's kitten
to write or not to write
then revel in this silenced night
Since I know each recitation
prompts another hesitation
in the unfolding of the world
while each moment is unfurled
Before I begin once again
let the end then guide my pen
towards some fated truth
just as old age so follows youth

Her KinsMan - His Lady
Kinsman
Left alone to contemplate,
All the sacrifices that once he made,
Out of love, even out of rage,
The pain in his eyes was so vivid
I had to cry as the vibe took over,
A comfort word to say,
" I do understand"
Cannot take away the hurt that pierced his heart,
Some cultures teach you, men don’t cry,
But when they do, it’s like pureness of angels,
poured out of heaven,
It’s not weakness,
its cleansing of the soul and preparing for when the Lion has to roar,
Passion and affection is stirred when witnessing...

Talk About the Whether
To be or not to be ...
whether to face the slings and arrows
of outrageous fortune” ~ Shakespeare
I listen to that princely voice
demanding a choice
letting me perch no longer
upon the wrought iron gate
But to be or not to be
was never easy
even after all of that
ancient Danish rot
Still wishing that I forgot
that to not decide
is to decide
like existential suicide
Leaving Sartre and Camus
with little left to do
besides dabble
in erudite babble
Avoiding the trap ...

Swallowed Up in the Eternal
Out, out brief candle!" ~ Macbeth by William Shakespeare
How brief is a brief candle
is it more or less than I can handle
a mere blink of an eye
in a lazy afternoon of infinity
So much before with so much after
each tear and all my laughter
barely a dip or a blip
barely a faint receding sigh
Lamenting about when I die
what will it all mean
what will it all have meant
this life with its energy spent
No bridges built
over swollen rivers of guilt
no shinning city on...

Jeff awoke to his phone alarm at 6am. Rolling over to quiet it. Then punching in his pin to check his texts, Facebook notifications, Twitter notifications, Instagram etc. Seeing the large number today he settles in to scroll through them in turn. Scrolling the titles and opening words of each, then opening and sometimes replying to interesting ones.
He pays particular attention to a co-worker's comments and posts. The blonde with the big tits he's been trying to bed. Another sexy selfie she tagged him in. Ogling her pic in a tight fall sweater with a come hither look, has his lust...
