You work hard for the boss
You play ball for the coach
Pull for the team
Be true to your school
Keep your eyes and ears open and your mouth shut

Strive for perfection in everything you do
People who do what they are told can be the most terrifying
Be one step ahead of your "friends" and surroundings

Frozen stare fixed on a computer screen
Watching the waves move with the sound
Voice of reason always ready to intervene
How long till the next song comes around
When did you start second guessing me?
Turning mole hills into full blown calamity
Funneling booze into a hemorrhaging mind
Leads to blame pointed in the wrong place
Haunted by ghosts while logic turned blind
Demons work while wearing a familiar face
When was it you sold your light my friend?
Deciding to surrender just to play pretend

I didn't know there was a currency for an
Idea
I thought at least that was free
My dear
But what is coming off in waves of
I fear
Is that the cash in this cave is
insincere
Giving you what I got, was a token in a
pond
It caused too many ripples to stay afloat
or stand on
Wanted to give back what I
gravitated to
But the money is stacked against me, I didn't have
a clue ...

moment to moment
in the shadows today
quietly listening to nature sing and grieve
things are swiftly changing
sometime my mind reels
seventies child...windy
watching the leaves silently sing
feeling the era
summer days were long
neighborhood children making up their own games outdoors
shaded afternoons up a tree dreaming
creating my own worlds
my favorite tree my protector
green my favored company
bike rides dreaming of the life I would like
and when my garden dream house would...

WHY I APPRECIATE POETRY
I have been asked many times,
"Why do you read poetry?"
"Why do you like poetry?"
The answer is simple and
involves many reasons:
I appreciate poetry
BECAUSE
...it stimulates my mind,
...it introduces me to new vistas,
...it helps me appreciate poets,
...it helps me to dare and write a poem too.
...it helps me raise new and challenging questions,
...it sometimes helps me make new friends,
...it doesn't take hard work to read a poem,
...it sometimes creates new and unusual desires,
...it makes the world more beautiful,...
"Why do you read poetry?"
"Why do you like poetry?"
The answer is simple and

Tinsel moments of sheer heaven
and tormented moments of hell,
Stitch them together
to make a soul.
Where there should be meaning
was left a hole.
Purpose is searched and scavenged

Friendships with losers,

A petty amusement and a thrill.

When you take that last pill?

Doesn't think you're real?
