mama dilemma

I still hear laughter through the floorboards
& smile to myself
even as my heart constricts
...for a long painful moment
the sound doesn't ring quite as true
...slightly fractured...
it's the thing that makes a mother flinch...
she was in love...giddy with it
sighing over her coffee
smiling secretly as she washed dishes
it's been a rough few years
filled with isolation...medications...changes
retreating from a world no longer welcoming
I wanted more than anything for this to be her bliss ...

Iris Eileen
young lark delights
over prairie fields
soaring high for
the golden light
lark caged within
cities of care
calling out for
expansive lands
released lark
ascending
finding home
in spirit’s hands
over prairie fields
soaring high for
the golden light
lark caged within
cities of care
calling out for
expansive lands
released lark
ascending
finding home
in spirit’s hands

Little Hermes
My little Hermes
With that belly full of milk
Like little lions
When they drink from their mom
Let me touch it a bit
Please.

Within My Sight
They say eyes are the
windows of the soul
and for me it's fitting
since I have two
I've shared its
luminous spark
twice with my sons
Shared my breath
until they were
strong enough
to do it on their own
months later
in the middle of the night
Where the fear
was so bright I
couldn't open my eyes
until the first sound
of blood and cut
umbilical cords
And since then
they are always
Within My Sight
My oldest
so like his mother
the constant dreamer ...

Angel of My Tears
How do you love a person
who never got to be,
or try to envision a face
you never got to see?
How do you mourn the death of one
who never got to live.
When there’s nothing to feel good about
and nothing to forgive?
I love you, my little baby,
my companion of the night.
Wandering through my lonely hours,
beautiful and bright.
What does it mean to die before
you ever were born,
to live the lovely night of life
and never see the dawn?
Ah! My little baby,
you lived like anyone!
Life’s...
who never got to be,
or try to envision a face
you never got to see?
How do you mourn the death of one
who never got to live.
When there’s nothing to feel good about
and nothing to forgive?

My Child Did Exist
I've lost a child, I hear myself say, And the person I'm talking to just turns away. Now, why did I tell them, I don't understand. It wasn't for sympathy or to get a helping hand.
I just want them to know I've lost something dear. I want them to know that my child was here. My child left something behind which no one can see. My child made just one person into a family.
So, if I've upset you, I'm sorry as can be. You'll have to forgive me, I could not resist. I just want you to know that my child did exist.

Mother
Becoming a mother saves me
I love my mother more
for the sacrifices she made
and the neglect she endured
I’m happy to be at the giving end
my children have a mother
and grandmother
with broken chains, healing scars
I’ve longed for the days
of giving back the kind of love
I never fully felt
I love my mother more
for the sacrifices she made
and the neglect she endured
I’m happy to be at the giving end
my children have a mother
and grandmother
with broken chains, healing scars
I’ve longed for the days
of giving back the kind of love
I never fully felt

Ask Mother
Ask Mother;
Can we bask in the rolling meadows,
swim in the sea of blue skies?
Only until dark.
Ask Mother.
Can we dance to the symphony of sounds just out past the trees,
singing its sweet promise of tomorrow.
Only for a moment.
Ask Mother.
We found her sitting beside the stream,
she weeps at her own reflection.
'Can we go back inside?' We ask.
She responds in a voice so faint,
It's like she didn't want us to hear;
'Ask Mother.'

Only until dark.
Ask Mother.

the execution
the night of the executions
On the roof of his loft room, there was a half-open window
by climbing up on a chair, he could see over
the rim and eye
the camp for Russian prisoners of war.
on clear nights, especially when the moon was almost full
he was fascinated by the details and could see the upland
and the village bathed in blue and silver.
it was in the middle of a war,
the boy was five years old
and had been sent to a farm to be safe from nightly sirens
that had frightened him
it was on a night like this,...

On My Mother Turning 30 in 1957
My mother ended
her 29th year tra-la-la-ing
on feckless gams
smack dab into the brick wall
of the big three-oh--
old at thirty? What fool
told her that?
Each night the laying on of hands,
the transsubstantiation
of Pond's Beauty Cream:
Hail, Lois, full of grease,
the lard is with you
backed by a money-back guarantee.
I remember how she wept
gathering...

A Mother's Might
A pureness;
I shall protect you
from the pain and trials
of this world.
Not ever doubt you
those round cheeks in smiles
sweetest of my world.
Your cuteness;
Is most definitely unrivaled
no question
affection always entitled.
I hope you'll live a happy life
No pain nor trials to stop your path
In a long journey such as life
Make sure to learn yourself some math!
Success and ever blessed luck
Meet ones to share your love
But never give it away for a few buck ...

Liquid Gold
Our color was predestined
From the beginning of time
An armada of femininity
Behind each of our eyes
Resonate and radiate
Nurture our womanly glamour
As we design our golden age
With untarnished beauty
Bestow future legacies
Of mothers and daughters
With precious liquified metal
Our wisdom will never rust
Teaching love’s glory
Between woman and man
Penmanship forever lasting
Never smudged or cold
As we pour priceless treasure
From our legendary hearts
Elegance combined with ...
