this is the only avenue i have
kept in my back pocket
rocking out to muted sounds

but a man
nothing more
but so much less
than you
could confide in
an ignorant claim
of self-defiance

for a brief second, that

maybe have a thing to offer
yet it turns out
i'm just a pretty mess
like the aborted rest
of this shovel
