Poems about Masculinity
#masculinity
Poems about masculinity and what it means to be a man. Poetry about masculinity within mass media and the portrayal of men in societies around the world. Poems about changing attitudes towards masculinity; those who want to do away with traditional gender roles and those who feel vilified or left behind.
Sir Topp'im Hat
A brand new topper for the toff
Was revealed on Christmas Eve
And though deplorables may scoff
It's all because they preconceive
That anyone who wears a hat
Must look as though they drive a truck,
But, of rural fashion format,
A dandy does not give a fuck
Since men in redneck uniforms,
And the bigotry that they sell,
Are some of the required norms
For old confederates in hell.
No, a top hat is not as cheap
As what crackers and rappers wear
But under it...esteem will keep
Right by the lofty thinking...

I thought I couldn’t be a man
but I was just as violent
as any girl-chaser
and just as in need
of something to hit
but I was just as violent
as any girl-chaser
and just as in need
of something to hit

A Victim
He’d rather not be doing it,
he’d rather be alone.
But men are only real
when they’re as hard as stone.
he’d rather be alone.
But men are only real
when they’re as hard as stone.

Trying to Talk with a Man
i never thought how it must feel
to have to be a mountain -
immovable, impassable -
when you don’t always feel like one
i never thought how it must hurt
when all that comes your way is cars
and you’ve been told to be a road,
though even roads can get potholes
i never dreamed that being you
was hard, too lost in my own pain.
that when you told me how it felt
to be sent back to stand
among the grease fryers, unseen,
as pretty ones were placed upfront,
that you weren’t just lying to me
to have to be a mountain -
immovable, impassable -
when you don’t always feel like one
i never thought how it must hurt
when all that comes your way is cars
and you’ve been told to be a road,
though even roads can get potholes
i never dreamed that being you
was hard, too lost in my own pain.

Locked in this prison
Locked in this prison I'm stylish and slick, so why'd I remain like some chick with a d*ck,
There's a femme fatale in here just yearning release, as the odds they get lower the needs they increase,
I'm a blank, empty canvas on which I create, a most feminine vision I'm sure you relate,
To the woman within there is really no doubt, as I'm locked in this prison and cannot break out,
But I'll dress for my public in leather and lace, of a male chromosome you'll be finding no trace,
With my lashes, and lips crafted carefully so, the fact I was born a boy you'd never know, ...

Masculine
He reminds me of ritual
Every breath is sacred, individual
He teaches me about ceremony
Hearts in union, movement in harmony
He shows me intentional actions
Love that has no transactions
He holds space for me
Opens up portals of destiny
He keeps the even pace
Makes the strongest feel safe
He is the builder of many things, of dreams
Powerful, his voice is the trees, is the streams
Him, a hunter, and warrior
Him, a king, and protector
He is the strength in vulnerability
He is stability in action
He is Divine...

Parenthood
My father hung in the belfry
so many called him father, but the old woman in the house where I lived
said he was my father.
When I met Mother superior, her eyes softened for a moment.
The hanging was an accident.
At his funereal, the bishop attended to stop rumours of suicide.
The old woman and I watched the proceeding at a far distance.
I did see the face of the prioress in the window
unblinkingly stern, but in the afternoon glow,
she had tears in the corner of her eyes.
The old woman cackled and said, she gave you to...

DIMINISHED
he would go hungry
before he let us want
that's what i saw
and what i took for truth
and what my soul yearned to follow --
not blind
nor brutish
nor toxic
but righteous,
his love proved in a thousand ways
and none of them meant
to diminish
but to cherish
and work, work, work
and fix
and do
and hold (too) tight
and hold the door
and take the bullet
and tolerate
and try
so fuckin' hard
to carry the load
without letting on about
the goddamned weary strain of it ...

Finger Painting
for P
We finger painted all afternoon.
It was lovely, innocent,
our fingers like daubs
on an artist’s palette.
Joy like that
cannot be brought back.
Tell his parents I’m sorry,
but now they’ll never see, at least,
their boy grow up and ugly
in that way
that all boys do, one day.
His innocence will never be
enlightened by society,
and made to flee
the watches of the day,
as wrought in masculinity.
He’ll never sit beside
a woman on a train
and stroke her inner thigh.
He’ll never...

Is He Really A Man?
Man!
He claims to be one
Yet he talks like a boy!
He has features of one
Yet he complains incessantly like a toddler!
Is he really a man
With his display of the flowers of folly?
A little setback
He moans endlessly!
A little disappointment
He curses uncontrollably!
A little difficulty
He gives up effortlessly!
A contrary opinion from another
He argues oppressively!
Hey you!
Ask yourself some salient questions:
Does being a man about your manly features
Of moustache, beard and others?
Are you a man...

why look past a man like me
I am the kind of man
one would call a gentleman
I open doors and treat ladies right
yet the one girls overlook
bad boy is their taste you see
pain and sorrow tomorrow
and every day to fallow
why ladies do you reject
the ones ready to protect
that love and security you needed
heart felt love and gentleness in deeded
