Poems about Identity
#identity
Exploring the meaning of identity within our society. Identity poems explore our personality, uniqueness and lifestyle choices to find out what gives individuals, groups and sub-cultures their identity.
African Proverb
I am that African proverb,
the child that burned down
the whole village just to feel
it's warmth. Sometimes I can
still hear my brothers
childhood screams.
All I ever wanted was to protect him.
To stand tall against our torturers.
My mother's family were
and still are insisting on keeping
family secrets.
But not I, now I speak about
all the pain that afflicted my soul.
I see it so often people keeping
the family demons hidden.
You reap what you sow,...
the child that burned down
the whole village just to feel
it's warmth. Sometimes I can
still hear my brothers
childhood screams.
All I ever wanted was to protect him.
To stand tall against our torturers.
My mother's family were
and still are insisting on keeping
family secrets.
But not I, now I speak about
all the pain that afflicted my soul.
I see it so often people keeping
the family demons hidden.
You reap what you sow,...

Photopoetry of the ass
my poetry is about
my ass turned
to the moon in half
of my face and
in half of your own
out of focus photograph
and without the center of
gravitational pull
it's simply about
my ass gaping
in the face of others
whoever wants
to say that he didn't see
and the one who
just wants to take one
picture of his own ass
just like me!

Husk
You left me in the shallows,
half-drowned, lungs full of silt.
I am the remnants of something holy,
a cathedral stripped to bone.
Your voice was once a lifeline,
a tether between earth and sky—
now it lingers like distant thunder,
too far to bring the rain.
I call out, but only silence answers.
The ocean does not return what it takes.
And yet, I stand at the edge,
waiting for the tide to recognize my name.
half-drowned, lungs full of silt.
I am the remnants of something holy,
a cathedral stripped to bone.
Your voice was once a lifeline,
a tether between earth and sky—
now it lingers like distant thunder,

The Carbon Family Picnic
At Evergreen Meadow,
The air crackled with excitement. It was the summer solstice, the one day of the year the sprawling Carbon Clan gathered in one place. This year, the honor fell to Carbon-12, their steadfast patriarch, whose sprawling oak tree in Evergreen Meadow served as the clan's traditional meeting spot.
Carbon-12 surveyed the crowd with a warm smile. His countless bonds had created a sprawling family, each member unique, yet undeniably Carbon. There was Carbon-13, his eccentric cousin, juggling aetheric energy orbs while debating the merits of isotopic art with...

It is YOU I Admire
It is YOU who I admire
I praise you for being a scumbag since you were a kid
You never took into account all the wrong doings you have done to people
The love that you gave has left it's mark on numerous "loved ones" that trusted you
Your affection has been an infection to most girls you've fucked
The enjoyment you looked at with high value has left many scarred for life
Perfection is what you strive for, manipulating and taking advantage of others...shame on you
Appreciation is what you'll never find amongst people
You have no redeeming...

The Mundane
I vanished
before the day began
fell into blackness
knowing not who I am
Drifted off
somewhere in the night
without any urge
nor desire for flight
Emotional void
dull, undefined
thoughts malformed
nothing aligned
Discovering lost
amid the mundane
a deep discomfort
feels like pain
Lacking resolve
and spiritual wealth
blindly searching
for original self

A Tale of a Cup of Coffee
It feels safe here
A gentle escape from fame
My disguise working well
Even the guy at the Deli on the corner
Didn't pay me no mind
I asked for hazelnut instead of regular
It smells great but taste is often lacking
The story of my life wraps around coffee
I tried so hard to achieve greatness
Now hiding from the very thing I thought I wanted most
Everyone wants a piece of your privacy
Selling my soul for headlines was a mistake
I couldn't have known then, to busy with my arrogance
Shit, he put sugar in my...

Go Ahead, TRY IT!
Go ahead
Nothing can kill me
No one can kill me
You can put a fucking bullet through my head and end my life
But NO ONE or NOTHING can kill me except ME!
REMEMBER THAT FOR THE NEXT TIME!

No one can kill me

But NO ONE or NOTHING can kill me except ME!

In Between Selves
The mirror image flickers again
Like a buffering screen shorting out.
I watch ghosts of me fade away
As if I am caught in the veil
Waiting for resurrection at last.

Sam I am
That which observes greed is not greed: greed cannot observe itself.
That which observes lust is not lust: lust cannot observe itself.
That which observes anger is not anger: anger cannot observe itself.
That which observes love is not love: love cannot observe itself.
Who is the observer then?
Don't say "I am" because "I" does not exist.
That which observes mind is not mind: mind cannot observe itself.
And discuss.
That which observes lust is not lust: lust cannot observe itself.
That which observes anger is not anger: anger cannot observe itself.

I hope to see you there
Gentle air fills dying lungs
Under blue skies and bitter chill
Folk tunes playing through blown out speakers
Nervousness fills aching bones
Picking lint off of an expensive sweater without breaking eye contact
How did I get here?
Years of dreaming was never enough
Restlessness and addiction kept me stuck
Until the final push from the one who promised to never let me fall
An open door to the visions that have flooded my brain since adolescence
A bigger view caused for an emotional afternoon
But who am I to...
