Miss Birdseed
The public house had long been haunted by some strange presence that upset slop trays and let beer dribble out from the taps when no one was looking, but it was not really about this that the publican's wife had come to consult the occult detective, Joshua Samuels.
'That's just the Pimlico poisoner, that is' said Mrs Godalming with weird alacrity. 'Back in my grandfather's day, the pub was frequented by bigwigs from Westminster on their way to County Hall, where Maggie Struthers was strung up by her neck in the place of execution for killing her husband and child with arsenic....

TAG, YOU'RE IT! (collaboration with Lilliputian)
They played a fierce game of tag all of their lives
From as far back to childhood through to their later years in life
Tag you're it
Now, tag you're it!
The game was harmless, but both were eager to tag the other throughout their lives
Even when they were married & had families, the game went on
One of them fell ill a few years back
Even so, wheelchair bound and sick, he would tag his friend gleefully, like he did for over 70 years
His friend was saddened but thought he'd bounce back
He never did
While in the hospital on his deathbed, he...

Soulstorm of the Wicked (Ghostlords of the Witch)
Through disease, war and self-destruction the Cunaim city-state fell
They was the greatest of them all who spiraled down broken stairs into hell,
“Those other city-states the Cunaim controlled were put in their place
Even though limited freedom was given they were still looked upon with disgrace,
“One vassal state secretly breed a generation until they bled poisonous blood
Every year performing an evil ritual holiday of sinister loyalty and fake love,
“With a form of Seppuku they would drain themselves dry
Upon farming fields, sewers...

The Bloodied Dandy
The hotel had been running since the Middle Ages and did a roaring trade in kitsch tours for people wanting to experience a little of the horror of murders that had happened there. Although the proprietors were innocent (tour guides employed by the hotel were at pains to emphasise) there was a conspiracy of highwaymen, as the 18th became the 19th century, to lure travellers and then kill and rob them in their rooms. One young Pink of the Ton (meaning a fashionable young man) was lured by the promise of elopement with a woman with whom he thought he had been in correspondence.

Faithful Alice: A Lyrical Ghost Story and True Tragedy
- Faithful Alice: A Lyrical Ghost Story and True Tragedy -
What is a blessing, when so many tragedies hath befallen,
Leaving a soul to believe that they walk eternally accursed...
Cleaved from Paradise's light, to walk in places of darkness?
Loving, lusting, craving, bleeding, dying, and still returning! Sin.
The chaos of this world multiplies, until it is well swollen,
Pregnant with horror, until the very earth hath become bled...
And the innocent scream, in equal parts fear and also distress.
If I hath become Hell, then I walk alive yet burning....
What is a blessing, when so many tragedies hath befallen,
Leaving a soul to believe that they walk eternally accursed...
Cleaved from Paradise's light, to walk in places of darkness?
Loving, lusting, craving, bleeding, dying, and still returning! Sin.

Brick and Mortar
Houses are of brick and mortar. If there's evil, it's in someone's heart. I don't remember who said that, but it mostly holds true. I say mostly because sometimes the evil in someone's heart can leach into the brick-and-mortar. The house on Cromwell Row was like that. It was one of five uniform constructions backing onto farmer's fields, the opposite of what you would imagine when given the prompt "haunted house". There were no gables, no accidents of architecture turning upper windows into eyes, and it was only one floor, a bungalow, just like its mates.

Scapino
The new flats built on Eagle Street were semi-luxurious and advertised as being for "young professionals". Previously it had been a council property and used to house needy families as well as other "problem cases" that the local authorities felt obliged to deal with, including addicts and recently released prisoners. There was a scandal two years before the council sold the premises when the tenants of one flat murdered a young man whom they'd brought home from a nightclub. One of the killers was a collector of clown memorabilia and seemed especially fond of a persona...

Shameless in Poughkeepsie - with Adagio
Mostly lost among the shadows the old Victorian home weeped from loneliness. Shadowed by the oaks and hemlocks and the memories, but dead is dead and there are no witnesses to the missing corpse because the shadow is my ghost. No time for hysterics. Even ghosts are insomniacs dripping into insanity playing musical chairs and listening to someone else's calliope...perhaps, steampunk's steam roller. The house said nothing. Never complained until the owners wanted to replace the old coal furnace in the bowels of the cellar and modernize the water closet. It was losing its charm.
